EU finalize and deliveries

This makes me (EU Sig #14 in Switzerland) wonder, how many Model S will go to Norway before the rest of us in Europe will start receiving their cars...
I asked about this when I was confirming my upgrade from the EU Sig waiting list. I was told that TM will honour the order of the reservations. As TM has so many cars going to Norway they had felt that it was reasonable to say at the event in Norway that Norway will be in the first group to receive cars.

I believe S1 is from Norway, so I think Tesla is pretty safe when they say the first Model S´s will be going to Norway, no matter how they decide to do it.

"prioritizing" manufacturing as Elon says it, is not the same thing to me as to "say that Norway will be in the first group"...

Elon said 'prioritzing Norway' because he was in Norway. If he had been in The Netherlands he would have probably said 'prioritizing The Netherlands'. Because he meant to convey the message that they will be prioritizing European cars, to get rid of the backlog and to make sure that everyone who has reserved now will get the car in 2013. And prioritizing European cars is the same as prioritizing Norwegian cars (and Dutch cars, and Belgian cars and Swiss cars, etc).

A few cars will probably go to Norway first, if only for the fact that it takes a few days to get them there from the European distrubution center in The Netherlands. But that doesn't mean Tesla will not honor the order of reservations. Norway has 1000 reservations on a European total of 3,500 (incl. Signatures), so there is bound to be a lot of Norwegians cars anyway among the first Signatures.

Yeah, that may be true. But it could also be, that Tesla is starting with a batch of all Norwegian Sigs + some of the GPs for Norway and then start production for the Rest of Europe.

Fact is, that we don't really know because Tesla is still not communcating the VINs to customers and there is no official aknowledgement from Tesla, that they will not delay deliverys to the rest of Europe in favor of Norway.

At least Tesla should clarify, what Elon exactly meant by saying that they will prioritize manufacturing for Norwegian Model Ses.

In cannot believe that Tesla would actually deliver cars from General Production before all Signatures have been delivered. The people who have a Signature-reservation are not paying an extra premium for nothing (on top of the very few extra's the car has).

Fact is we do know they don't seem to care about reservations numbers. You can blame it on Battery back sizes, colours or Suspensions or whatever. Even thou at the time Europe gets it's cars all configurations are in production I'm quiet sure they'll have some other logics at work to optimize production and or delivery. So the Reservation number is probably just a rough indicator to when you'll get the cars, especialy as a Standard buyer.

Sure the Ps will come in batches as has been, and is being done in the US and Canada. But I highly doubt that they would split the 500 Sigs for Europe into different lots. Sigs are all 85Kwh and one of four colours with almost every option already in there. There seems to be a natural batching for the Sigs. So I would suggest all sigs first then there might be prioritising to Norway that could "hurt" the R reservees. we'll see...........

They said, that they will deliver Sigs before GPs in each market. So they could reason, that each Country in Europe is a seperate market with different pricing. After all, they have delivered a big number of US GPs before the first European Sigs.

I get A (not THE) call from Tesla UK today asking me if I had any questions before I would finalize.

No real questions for me standing out at this point, so I asked when I could expect the e-mail to finalize. With my R231 he told me I should expect that e-mail at the end of April. He emphasized again that all EU cars reserved up until now will be delivered in 2013.

+1. I am a little surprised that they call one month in advance of finalizing ........ it makes the wait even harder. ;-)

yes but the markets you talk about had different sig lists. europe (except the UK, which has its own because of right hand drive) has only one singular sig list, so your scenario would not be likely.

I had a test drive yesterday at the Oslo store, and asked if they knew what was meant by "prioritizing" deliveries to Norway. They said that it would indeed involve some "sneaking ahead of the line" in terms of reservaion number, but to what extent they didn´t know.

I do not think the Norwegian cars will go to the Netherlands, they will be shipped directly to Drammen, Norway. At least that's what I could infer from the info given at Elon's visit last week.

There is no tolls to be avoided by shipping incomplete cars to Norway like it seems to be for mainland Europe. So I gather they will ship directly here by roro-ship instead of by 4-car containers.

This might be a reason for us getting quite a lot of cars early.

I also got a call yesterday from England, asking if I had any questions regarding the S.

It caught me by surprize, so I didn't think of any. I would love a test drive before I finalize. Just to make sure, I'm getting the right configuration (for me). Reading these froums helped make up my mind on many of the choices, but seeing for yourself is another thing.

He said the finalize button should appear soon. No date given, so I am checking like every other day.

I would love more information on the European version of the car

- charging
- which charging cables and/or adapters are included?
- type of internet access, (GPRS, LTE)
- fog lamps (front and rear)
- parking beepers (?)
- interior update (?)
- center console
- cup holder front and back
- where do I put the documents one must carry in the car, like license, parking permits, cards to activate the carious charging systems)?

Anything else I should be asking? Anyone know the answers yet?

Would it be possible/likely they ship Model S version 2.0 to Europe? After all, this is a full year into production.

I hat a Sig reservation originally, downgraded to P in order to finance my roadster. Currently MSP #233

maybe they will move up some sig holders to get theirs before other sig holders whom are outside of Norway and maybe the same thing for R and P so if sig 100 is in continental europe and sig 200 in Norway then maybe sig 200 will be delivered before sig 100 and so on........ I still think it would be very bad publicity to schun sig holders in continental europe by letting general production units filter in before in Norway..........

I only know what Musk said when he was in Oslo. I don't think he had details, so the answers do have a bit of play in them.

- charging: He said that it will support 3-phase (230? 400?) and CHAdeMO.
- cables/adapters: Don't know. Assuming the "most used ones", like in the US.
- internet: Same as US, i.e. 3G / UMTS.
- fog lamps: It has front fog lamps already. I think there's a requirement for rear fogs, so I guess that will be added. The two Model Ss on norwegian plates have retrofitted fog lamps in the rear.
- parking sensors: Not on the first ones delivered. He stressed that the difficult part when it comes to equipment is not what to include, but what to not include. So parking sensors, adaptive CC, electrically folded mirrors etc. are not coming now.
- interior update: Not mentioned, so assuming it's not being changed for now.
- center console: Still just a big hole.
- cup holders: Same.
- storage space: What you have on the US model.

edit:
- other: "DAB? Is that a European standard? Then, yes." <= Do we get DAB? Still unsure.

The status on the "My Tesla" page has changed from The tesla factory is building your Model S to "Your order has been submitted to the Tesla factory"

Just asked my Delivery Specialist in UK what this actually means - is it good or bad?

Anyone else seeing this?

Reply from Tesla:

Hi Ken,
Thank you for your email. This means that your Model S will be one of the first to be produced when the production starts in June.
I am really excited for you, you have already completed what so many other customers are still waiting for.

From now on, it is only about reading about Tesla and the Model S online and telling your friends the great news that you will be receiving your Model S as one of the first in Europe :)

Have a wonderful weekend and I will stay excited for you as well :)
