I have driven all three and own the 60kWh. In summary, the Performance is not worth it IMHO unless you want bragging rights. The 85kWh and 60kWh feel about the same and performance difference seems negligible. The power available at any speed is more than sufficient to perform any maneuver as the power is there immediately with a twitch of the foot. Even during turns at low speeds, putting the power down has only resulted in slips when touching very slippery objects like road reflectors (those little white or yellow bumps in the road) when it's wet. Even on short on ramps it's easy to hit 80MPH in our 60kWh.Can we hear more about the performance of the 60kWh from some of you who are driving them around? Anyone driven both the 60kWh and 85kWh and performance, and can post some notes on comparison? Any more 0-60 times to publish, under different conditions?
... road reflectors (those little white or yellow bumps in the road) ...
EDIT: And apparently those awful dome things are used all over the place in California. Can you tell I have never been there?
And you can tell where I grew up by me only knowing them as Botts' Dots. None of them in Minnesota. I can't imagine what they would do to a snowplow if they didn't give.
Classic. I reserved on June 30th. Unfortunately I'm picking up in Costa Mesa instead of factory. Next step for us is VINs. I hope we get them issued before we are much into the delivery window.
This is not PC, but when I was a kid (at the time living in Dallas), they were referred to as "City Titties". =)Yup, Botts' Dots. My Aussie friend, who used to ride a fancy Aprilla bike, used to call lane splitting while straddling these things "riding by Braille"!
At #11770, I figured I had 2 months to go. But the Tesla gods have been kind. My window is same as your's with Feb 16 - Mar 2nd window.
I had a dream last night that the car was ready and I picked it up from the factory, then started the drive home. So I took that as a good omen and emailed the Product Specialist this morning asking if there was any new information. Within an hour or two he called. The car is ready. VIN is 3949. Paperwork is in process. We'll all head to Fremont in 2.5 weeks to pick it up, see some family and S.F., then drive it home with stops in lovely Gilroy, Harris Ranch, Tejon Ranch and Barstow. I love it when a plan comes together!
My delivery window is quoted 2/21-3/6. Can't wait! Any other ny/ nj out there in this window? Also just curious why is everyone so concerned with getting the vin so quickly? Is that for financing or insurance?
I don't need my VIN for financing or insurance until I pick up the car. I just want it to know in my mind that the car exists and I'll have it soon. Also just curious why is everyone so concerned with getting the vin so quickly? Is that for financing or insurance?
I took delivery of my 60 kWh Model S at the factory today. It was actually ready a week ago but couldn't get there until today. VIN 3730 Already I can tell the energy usage is noticeably lower than my husband's 85 kWh Model S due to the lighter weight and possibly also the 19" wheels vs his 21".
In the next few days, I'm hoping to do a side by side comparison of energy usage in his car and my car as we drive the same route at the same speed. I'll post the results.
