Below are some very stat about FSD:
1. Musk said there are 300 million miles driven under FSD. US total miles driven is about 3 trillion miles a year. So FSD is about 0.01% total miles driven.
2. There about 2 million Tesla on road in US. There about 200 million automobiles in US. So Tesla is about 1% of total cars on road.
3. Assuming 1 and 2 above are ballpark right estimates, we can say 1 out of 100 Tesla owners use FSD regularly.
Hence I think for FSD to go mainstream, there are some options:
1. Tesla to license FSD to other EV makers
2. Drop FSD subscription/purchase cost to much more affordable level, say 80 pct reduction of 12k
3. To open source FSD so it becomes industry standard
What do u think? My point is that if Tesla were to leave FSD in current state, it would be like $8k color wrap, with 1% Tesla driver using it, FSD can never become real revenue generator.
