MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) applied to trade? How is the "our unpredictable madman with a red button is less rational than your unpredictable madman with a red button" working out?
I guess it's still better to have a trade war than a nuclear war.

oops I've again fallen for Trump's negotiation tactic of using an utterly odious offer to make a less odious offer look attractive.

The market is up 220 so.. who knows. Kinda weird for the market to rebound when there is a trade war coming and the president is sure to be lead off in handcuffs for creating a trade war to help his hotel business somehow. You would have to ask Rachael Maddow for the details on that.

Google Netflix Amazon Facebook all pretty much blocked from
Doing business in china for national security reasons .

When they block it’s legitimate , if we threaten to protect ourselves
It is criminal .

Yeah, national security. LoL. I guess you could call oppression a national security reason. Its hard to coordinate the over throwing of an oppressive regime with no internet. And good old Netflex and their rated R movies.

In 2015 Boeing and other aerospace exports (built in Washington state) totaled $48.8 billion.

Untargeted trade sanctions are a waste of industrial policy attention. Tariffs on metals used in Boeing planes increases their cost and makes them less competitive, and less likely to continue selling tens of billions worth of aircraft to export markets. China is Boeings best export customer most years. Tesla also making good revenues exporting to China, EU, etc. will be hurt rather than helped by steel and aluminum tariffs.

Consolidation in the autonomous vehicle space in China

Similar to the Waymo-Uber controversy, Baidu’s head of its driverless car division left and started his own autonomous vehicle company, JingChi. Baidu had initiated a suit for theft of trade secrets, but just dropped the legal action with concurrent news that JingChi’s CEO resigned, and JingChi has joined Baidu as an official partner.
TLDR: China is experiencing similar corporate growing pains as in the US. Could there be a place at the table in China for the Tesla Network If Tesla achieves proficiency before Chinese entities?

Fixed that for you. Japan's birth rate is low, but it's similar to a lot of western European countries. It's just that Western European countries have made up for the low birth rate with immigration. (Immigration is a big issue because immigration is big.)

I said virtual because there is some immigration to Japan.

There are ethnic Japanese that were registered in their ancesteral hometowns.

Some Philipino nurses.

People that marry Japanese citizens.

Entertainers. Actors,Athletes, Exotic Dancers (not kidding).

There are also over 800k Koreans living in Japan for a variety of reasons.

OT, but is the Falcon booster returning after launch tonight (12:35am)?
From the spacex.com "watch now" screen: "The Hispasat 30W-6 satellite will be deployed approximately 33 minutes after launch. SpaceX will not attempt to land Falcon 9’s first stage after launch due to unfavorable weather conditions in the recovery area off of Florida’s Atlantic Coast."

Interesting Model 3 product info: the stock powertrain works quite well at the track: Model 3 Track Day: Laguna Seca

Model 3 was able to complete 9 consecutive laps at full power. The Model S, in comparison, automatically goes into a reduced power mode under sustained throttle use that one would typically see in track use.

Model 3’s overall performance and handling appears to be superb, based on the driver’s feedback and the video posted. The only problem encountered was that the OEM brake pads were expended by lap 4, but this is to be expected. Brake pads for everyday street use are far less durable than brake pads for racing.

I don’t know why the Model 3 is able to do this when the Model S cannot. Perhaps the 3’s coolant system is better, or maybe the PM motor does not generate as much heat.

At any rate, Tesla has proved that their product can match or beat ICE capability in yet another application.

What if it's a software bug and it should reduce power after heavy use like that?
