I plug into my garage with a 14-50 but only get 32 amps. With a J-1772 plug in a 80 amp power source will the Model 3 get to 80 amps or top out at 32 amps?
No. It'll max out at either 32 or 48 amps: Onboard Charger. This also depends on the EVSE itself. You need to connect to at 48+ amp L2 EVSE to hit 48 amps.
The Model 3 SR+ can charge at a max of 32 amps. The LR models can charge at up to 48 amps. Note that the mobile charger that comes with the car maxes out at 32 amps.
I think this isn't a distinction that needs to continuously be reiterated. While it's technically correct and I used to remind folks all the time, I can't help but feel like it's a bit pedantic to say. We still call the cord that is used to charge our cell phones "the phone charger" when the actual charging circuitry is internal to the phone.
