Let's you had $150k, and you had to spend it on a car, and teslas didn't exist. What car would you be buying? New or used, doesn't matter.

Assuming you mean Tesla didn't exist at all? Probably back to one of my last 2 cars, either a new Chevy Volt or a Coyote era 6-speed manual Ford Mustang GT. The Mustang is the closest thing to what I really want to drive at the price point I want without taking things like the future of mankind into consideration. If Tesla made a $35K-$40K electric manual transmission Ford Mustang GT with a 4 sec 0-60, I'd be in heaven.

That leaves another $110K for other things. I'd probably spend maybe $30K on a rooftop solar, $20K on other home improvements, $20K paydown on my mortgage, $20K added to long term savings or investments, $5K for a bitchin vacation, leaving about $15K in reserve for ... whatever else comes to mind later.

    An i3

To clarify, if Tesla didn't exist at all, an i3.
If other Tesla vehicles still existed, a 60D with the next gen auto pilot hardware.

Honestly I'm not a car guy, many people who know me laughed at me getting a Tesla because before they came along I was pretty outspoken that "It just gets you from point A to B so why spend so much on it?".

So if Tesla didn't exist, probably would buy a decent Acura and then spend the other money on home upgrades.

Yes - if tesla didn't exist at all, and you *had* to spend the $150k on a car. Like if you didn't spend it all, the rest of the cash would get launched into space on one of EM's falcon rockets.

I ask because I was doing the math on the p100d, and just started thinking what other crazy car could I get for the same money?

you wish! 2017 911 Turbo starts at $160k. after options about $180k.

if $150k is the real limit in this hypothetical, i'll take a loaded 2017 911 Carrera 4S. or a bare-bones 2017 Panamera Turbo.

If Tesla did not exist and "had" to spend $150k:
Corvette Stingray w/ every option and I'm still under 150

I would buy four GM Bolts, keep one and give three to my friends and family.

Although one could argue that the GM Bolt and BMW i Series would never exist if it weren't for Tesla...

I'd have to seriously consider a McLaren.

But we needed a family car and the Tesla was a hybrid of super-car and family-car that just isn't possible with anything else. Maybe a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S would have been okay.

If I'd otherwise loose the money, then it'd be an Aston Martin Vanquish for me.
