Insurance renewal

So iv had my tesla model 3 since November 19.
it was expensive to insure then at 1.2k by direct line. id had an accident that February and hadn't had enough time to wipe anything out plus I only passed my test in 2016 at 26. im 31 now it should not be as high as this.
so considering I'm now up to 5 years driving and 2 years no claim I'm doing some scouting for insurance as I'm due in November and I read it can sometimes be cheaper to go earlier.
how wrong I am last year I added my wife who'd only just passed too so it bumped it back to 1.4k which I expected but this year it's asking on all the sites for about 2.2k and direct line and LV needed me to take her off. LV then went to say its 1.9k

what am i suppsoed to do? get specialist insurance or what?

iv played with my job title to death i know what makes it the best btw so i can't even follow that path.

Have you tried playing with your due date? Supposedly around 21 days before is the best time but I've seen people's results vary.

Try a full month then 3 weeks then 2, 1,etc. Maybe even the next day. See what results you get.
yeh I specifically did it at 21 days in the future knowing full well im just experimenting.

iv tried confused, direct lien and lv
ill have to just work teh other comparison sites then start calling the specialists. i might even have to not have the wife on the car too

The 2 years no claims is probably why then IMO.

I'm 43 have 19+ years no claims (but 3 points on the license) and I'm still paying £860.

I'd wait until October a month before its due, and try every few days. Maybe you'll get lucky and hit on a day when it gives you a nice result. All quotes should be valid for 30 days.

Also, sign up for TopCashback and use their links for comparison sites. Will get you an extra £30-40 back.

I'm 66 and drive a M3P. My quote is £800 and I've not had an accident for over 30 years. Sometimes it beggars belief as to how the arrive by the numbers. I must live in a bad area despite the car being ultra difficult to steal.

Your average urban area is always likely to come out higher (more "bad people" who you have no control over I suppose, and more traffic to potentially bang into you... we're out in the sticks and my renewal quote is cheap by any measure, 225 for an SR+).

One way to check is. if you say you park in a garage and the quote goes up you are in a good area. if it goes down its a bad one

I live in a quiet area that happens to share the first 2 letters of the postcode with a town. Insurance companies seem to flip between reasonable and completely ludicrous depending on how their criteria have changed that year. I had one insurer go from £120 to over £700 in one year with zero change in circumstances (and that was a car that was barely worth £700 to replace..). I've been (mainly) lucky with the Tesla so far.

I also note that although the NCB discount goes up and is now '90% discount' according to my documentation, in no way has my insurance dropped 90%..

it seems to be compounded by the fact i moved house in May to back into the city zone as opposed to the town next door. still Preston and its postcodes but grr.

in fact, iv just removed the accident and added back 5 years ncd and i got admiral down from....3.6k to 3.004k.. yeh that helped haha. not ¬¬

i bought this car to be cheaper than my xtrail due to ack of fuel and services etc but im about to be hit by the need for tiers and winter and now this it's impossible. the savings made on fuel have just been eaten by insurance if i cant get it down

discount to a random frikin price they made up more liek not against your last one. it should always be only against ur last one but noooo... we don't see the sums and this should be illegal too.

Area plays a big part. My car insurance plummeted when I moved from Hertfordshire to Norfolk.
I’m 68, wife’s 63. No points Max NCD. Premium with Churchill is £440 including courtesy car, legal ins. and Green Flag

So this time of the year is back. Got my renewal quote and as usual went to shop around. Blimey!
I believe this is the first time that I cant find anything not cheaper but even matching the renewal quote which is actually lower than last year!
I guess inflation rise doesn't really help...

I'm it like the lottery, they pick a machine and the set of balls. My quote was the same as my previous 8 year old car, dreading to think what the quote will be for the next time will be.

My last year renewal from Admiral was 1100 (Tesla only). I have my wife's car and home insurance together so it ended up being cheaper in total.
This year renewal is 1000 again only for the Tesla but as part of the multi insurance package.

This is what I got by shopping around:

Gocompare: 1450 cheapest with black box

Confused: 1680 cheapest with black box

Direct line through the supposed Tesla link: 1380

Liverpool Victoria: 1800!!!!

These prices are for the Tesla only...
