Seems like will have to announce specs and price ahead of time for first customers to get loans and insurance setup. How far ahead was model Y details anniunced before delivery? Seems like a case of a watched pot never boils.
I'd bet they announce pricing and specs at reveal. The reveal/delivery event isn't typically for customers. It's for employees.

Was a $50-60,000 smallish SUV disrupting the market?

I ask because it's currently the best selling vehicle in the world.

Full sized truck sales are roughly 2 million a year in the US using 2022 numbers.

Average selling price was about $59,000 in the same period.

Tesla only needs just over 12% of that market for 250k a year.

This is the same garbage people gave about why nobody would buy Teslas cars.

>4 million Tesla cars sold later, it turns out people just charge at home, and there's way more than enough superchargers for the rare long trip.
Yes, and I’d wager a number of CyberTruck buyers want: a large SUV Tesla for road trips and don’t need to carry more than 4 people plus luggage (🤚).

If we are really at this late stage of design and build, shouldn’t they have already decided??
If they have a properly automated production line, then varying battery sizes and 2-3 additional drivetrain variation should be a non-issue.
If the production line is NOT automated (which seams to be the case), then Tesla will pick a single easiest-to-build configuration and push it out the door to meet launch deadlines.

It is weird that they hadn't settled on that single configuration (if hearsay reports are true, but who knows if they are), but the again, everything about CT has been late by an order of years.
Or it could be as simple as they got new manager in charge of the roll-out who has no clue what he/she is doing, so they sent out a form to figure things out.

Any all wheel drive version will have roughly the same final assembly complexity (variation being multiple connections to dual motor drive units). It does increase drive unit line complexity, but those could be fairly independent lines per type.

It’s clear most of you here have never worked in manufacturing. Probably single most reason I’ve stayed away from this site.

CT will be offered in a variety of drivetrains. They’ve asked employees who have reservations which one we want, so they know who they can line up for early delivery. They know which one they will deliver, but didn’t specify. If you ask a large crowd what they want, you’ve made a grave mistake. If you give them two choices, you’ll have data points you can react on.
