Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

Despite our car leaving the factory on 12/21, 10 days was apparently not enough time to travel 800 miles, so count us as yet another missed delivery window by Tesla. As best I can tell the car has been sitting in Portland for about 5 days. Would have been much quicker to just drive down and get it ourselves. Have not had any updates from Tesla since Friday, and my request for a status from our store today has gone unanswered. Assuming the car will likely show up later this week. We're still WAY ahead of when we expected to be getting the car, but let's hope they get this worked out in 2013.

My car should have left the factory two weeks ago. Paid for and still sitting there. At least your car is getting closer to you. My delivery window was Dec 19 to Jan 2. They are going to miss another delivery window.

Interesting 48 hours - found out my car was ahead of schedule for delivery and that it could still got on the truck in 2012 if I scrambled to make sure PenFed could confirm my loan. Was assigned VIN 3277. Reservation sequence number #6366. Performance, grey exterior, black interior, pano, carbon fiber, and all the other options except for third row seats. Delivery specialist confirmed the car was done today and loaded on the truck for delivery. What is most fascinating however is that it appears I got a model year 2013 VIN with the letter "D" rather than "C".

Mine isn't even built yet and I got a C MY2012. So weird.

Ook I have a n00b question.

I want a 40 S, when I paid my 5K it did not ask what car I wanted they just simply took the 5K. The 40's are starting production in March and my reservation number is right below 15K......if Tesla contacts me after march and the production of the 40's is over do I have to wait until the next round goes into production?....not really getting how this works.

Thanks.

I haven't seen anything that says 40kWh will only be produced in small batches for short periods of time. I think the assumption is that once they start production, they won't stop. Though how many 40kWh will be produced out of the total production per week is unknown. With a reservation number below 15K, you'll very likely be contacted before 40kWh production starts in March.

Of course, that's no guarantee of how long you'll have to wait after finalizing/signing.

Congrats, Todd! Did it arrive yet? If so, you're probably too busy testing it out...

Yesterday I heard my car was likely to arrive later this week, but today I got a call from my DS indicating that it may arrive today. (My S didn't have as far to travel since I live in LA.) Hope it comes soon, otherwise I may not get it until Wednesday unless the carriers are working on New Years Day.

Truck driver arrived right at 3:30 today...right on time!

Had a BLAST driving it today and burning electrons. Will post a detailed writeup soon...but in short, loving it!

BTW, someone in Asheville, NC is getting their Model S tomorrow!

So basically when my number is up they will build what ever car with whatever battery I want?

I think that's ideally what's supposed to happen -- parts shortages, acts of nature, etc. notwithstanding, yadda, yadda.

Disclaimer: I don't work for Tesla, nor do i have any insight into their production, factory, etc., so take what I say with a frunk-ful of salt. ;)

With the robotized lines they can supposedly mix and match pretty much any cars. But supply/feeder lines get complex. They seem to be getting more "flexible" as time goes on, though.

P5608 VIN2592 was delivered on 12/31 in Seattle.

Grey performance, pano roof, 21" silver wheels, black leather, piano black interior, 27 miles on odometer & 176 miles of charge at delivery. No tech or sound packages. Due bill - parcel shelf & detail. The car arrived via direct ship in an ok but not pristine condition (minor dust / debris on the exterior and interior). The detail was added to the due bill by Tesla without my asking or even hinting that I would appreciate having it in exceptional condition!

The car is amazing, everything I hoped it would be and then some :) Thank you Tesla!!!
