Car is flawless. I expected the best and it's better than I expected. Boston Tesla team was great. Crazy technology, very intuitive, frighteningly fast (but I'll get used to it :)). If this isn't the best sedan in the world I don't know what is.

One Footnote: Still on due bill: HPWC, CF spoiler and Parcel Shelf. They are supposed to supply us with 6-50 connectors as an interim solution to the backordered wall charger and now those too are backordered. Not great, but worth the growing pains.

Wow.... black with grey wheels looks totally awesome...
I am seriously considering getting the grey wheels too, now I have seen this picture.

For you guys that have been getting their cars recently, are the cars coming with the P85 badge? I'm due to receive my car on Tuesday, and the product specialist at Tesla said that a lot of the recent cars coming out have the badge on them. Just checking if you all are seeing that.

Thanks.

Yes, mine had the P85 badge. No CF spoiler, parcel shelf or HPWC. They are also behind on the interim 6-50 connector, which is a placeholder for the HPWC. As for the blue/black. It's blue. It was cloudy. Personally, I like both colors. I just thought that blue gives you the benefit of two colors in one. Looks black at night/cloudy days and really pops on sunny days. We also just had a lot of snow, so it was pretty dirty. :)

And that's why I ordered red over Tesla's blue.

The Red is very nice indeed.

For those of you worried about the Blue. My advice is: don't. I thought it was going to be too dark, and it IS a dark blue. But, I've been amazed at how well received it has been. Almost everyone that sees the car specifically comments on what a great color it is. Especially the wife who's kinda sick of me getting everything in blue. So, I got that going for me, which is nice.

Thanks for the clarification. The 6-50 adaptor being delayed is worrisome. The product specialist said to have a 6-50 installed instead of the 14-50 as it is easier to transition to the HPWC. He said that since we will get the 6-50 adaptor, then there is no need to have the 14-50 installed while waiting. So how do you charge your car if you have a temporary 6-50 outlet and no adaptor for it?

By the way, the blue color looks amazing.

Thanks as well, Htourk, for responding about the P85 badge. Thanks for the pics as well. I can hardly wait to get the car.

A few weeks back, I got the same information from Tesla (re: 6-50 interim solution and tesla to provide the adapter) . Right now I'm using a 110v outlet. It is drawing 12amps (15amp circuit) and charging at 2-5 miles/hr. Right now we have 4 cars, so i'm not too worried, but it's not a long-term solution. I ordered the 6-50 at the online store hoping that will help me jump the queue. Based on what I'm hearing, the backlog for HPWC is decreasing, so if you don't have a car yet, it is possible that the HPWC will get there around the same time. My solar city install is on April 4th.

One of the folks at Tesla mentioned that there is another solution using the same wiring for the HPWC/6-50 connector, but tweaking the bottom ground to use a 14-50 adapter. I am no expert so I pretty much discounted what he said. However, I will pass it along to the experts at Solar City.

All the inconveniences aside, it is so totally worth it. You will NOT be disappointed.

SolarCity installed an interim 14-50 for me because they said it was easier for customers since Tesla was forgetting to give out the 6-50 to customers. It also works out better I believe as the 14-50 is more common in the wild, and you'd be stuck with a 6-50 plug. My DS said they normally don't like to exchange plugs after the pick-up.

All y'all who bought the HPWC and are waiting should rethink it. 14-50 @240/40 charges PLENTY fast enough to do a full charge overnight. Unless you are truly late to bed and early to rise -- or you drive 250 miles in the AM, come home for lunch to charge, and then drive another 250 in the PM, there's no reason to have a HPWC. I've had my car for 3 months now and can't think of a single time I would have needed it. Think about it, and consider Tesla's delay a good opportunity to cancel your HPWC order and save some $$$.

The other reasons would be: Needing the 25' length. Wanting to be able to give a charge to someone. Liking the looks of the HPWC.

I've only been driving EV for 2 years now and only the S for about 3K miles and I would be careful with this decision, it's not the routine you are trying to cover with a faster charge, it's the every once in a while and wow does it suck to fall short even a few times a year. I would say that the value of the occasional quick turn around is disproportionate to the frequency, for instance, like having a family of four all waiting. Just a week ago I drove the S down to near zero and had to top off when I got home. because traffic was bad, it really put me in a pinch at 240 since I only had 20 minutes to spare before picking up the kids from daycare and needing to head on from there to dinner with friends. the HPWC not only makes full charge turn around faster it also makes the quick top off much faster. my perspective may be scewed by owning a Leaf, but I don't think so, I think it's still a similar dynamic, just on a different scale. the convenience of home charging is awesome, but I have concluded that the faster the better because on the occasion you need, even if it's rare, it is priceless!

Or coming home from a long drive in the morning, and getting fully charged much faster. It's worth it to me (don't have it yet). Sure, for overnight it's not necessary, but there are cases where I'll be happy to be able to put 60 miles of charge on my car in and hour if I need it.

I was thinking the same thing. I took a day ride to Stamford, CT for brunch and made a few stops on the way back to NJ. I arrived home with 14 miles left. I now have to wait 24 hrs. for a full charge on a 110V. I was debating returning the HPWC but now I will keep it (when it arrives). It's a drag that I have to wait ALL DAY to drive it the next day.

240/40 is very viable. You don't have to go all the way to HPWC just because 110 isn't doing the trick, because 110 is pretty worthless, and only good in a pinch. I've thought a little about my prior post, given the responses. I still think MOST people with 85 kwh battery would be perfectly happy with 240/40. Will concede that for smaller batteries, it's much more likely that you'll need to recharge during the day - as the one poster noted regarding his Leaf experience. It's really bad, though, if you are living with 110 for an indeterminate amount of time waiting for HPWC. I'll reiterate, all those in that situation should really evaluate their needs and consider putting in 14-50 outlet and charging on 240/40. 110 would be unbearable.

So, everybody on the forms seems to agree that it is easier to go from a 6-50 outlet to the HPWC when the HPWC arrives, however, when I spoke to Tesla a few weeks back on the phone, they told me to get a NEMA 14-50 outlet installed because they said that is the easiest to convert to the HPWC. Anyone know why they are giving contradictory information (they guy at the local store said 6-50 as well)?

The 6-50 requires three wires the same as the HPWC. The 14-50 requires four. However, the 14-50 is one of the standard adapters provided with the UMC so it's less likely to be missed during shipment. The answers aren't really contradictory, they just have a different focus.
