Model X December Deliveries

I also confirmed 11/20 and got VIN that same time on MyTesla page. I am still in Queue, and nowhere on my page does it mention ANY TIME FRAME.

I am also a 75D 5 seater EAP, FULL SELF DRIVE, sub zero & tow, tan leather
Delivery for Denver, CO

So the format of "My Tesla" page just changed this evening, but still does not appear to be in production. Last week my DS was confident of late December delivery to Ohio. Today, both the page and my DS say "Estimated Delivery Range: January, 2017 - Early February, 2017"

:-(

Oops! Turns out bonaire's consistently negative assessment of Tesla's demand and production is wrong again. Thanks for the data point.
For those of you who haven't met him yet, let me introduce you to Bonaire, the Eeyore of TMC. If you have any doubts about Tesla, he is there to reinforce them, amplify them, treat them as a succubus would. If you have anything positive, he is there to obfuscate, distract, denigrate. He is an acquired taste, and an acquisition I would abstain from, like smoking cigarettes or a clown convention.

At the time of pickup, the car was showing 8.0 software with version 2.44.something and was scheduled for an overnight software update. On the drive home, even basic cruise control was not available. This morning, the software updated to 2.48.35 and I now have basic cruise control (not TACC).

You should sign up at Tesla Firmware Upgrade Tracker Web App to record your firmware version so everyone can see all the new versions.

For everyone coming into this thread now, here are some things we "know" -- as in here are some common wisdom guesses we've made based on the limited data in these forums:

- Production does not proceed in VIN order *at all*.
- Cars that need to be shipped long distances are produced before close ones or factory pickups.
- Part shortages can cause significant delays, some of which happen after the car is "In Production". This is particularly apparent with 5 seat models.
- There are reporting disparities between MyTesla, automated email updates, and DS reports. None of those three are universally more accurate than the other two.
- Delivery Specialists either don't have insight into the status of production once a car is on the line or they are instructed to pretend they don't.
- The average/non delayed production time (in the factory, not shipping) seems to be about 5 days but given the imprecise reporting there's a lot of wiggle room there.

Thank you for a good summary. I would add one more that adds a bit more nuance to your second bullet:

- Cars destined for foreign markets are often/usually built at the very end (after manufacturing for in-quarter deliveries has ended)/start of a new quarter. This seems to be especially predictable for Europe and seems to be to maximize deliveries within a quarter as it takes a couple of months to ship/prep the car.

So if one orders in January-February for such a market, the car likely won't be built until last days of March or in April. If it misses the start of the quarter batch it waits for the next one.

Done. Looks like this 2.48.35 is new, I only see my car listed.....how does one tell what specifically changed with with this firmware?

Thanks!

Sadly, you can't. Tesla releases very little in terms of release notes, only seeming to hit on very big changes. Most of the changes are found out by people noticing the differences and sharing them on the forums.

BTW: Since you are the first person to report a version you get to give the version a name if you want to...

MyTesla page just updated today (still no automated emails from Tesla, just some correspondence with DS).
Just got this: "Estimated Delivery Range: December 13, 2016 - December 27, 2016"

Ordered/Confirmed: 22-November
In Production: 05-December
Delivery date estimate first appeared: 09-December
Shipping to Dallas, Texas
VIN: 310xx

We'll see if it makes it here by end of December.
And I hope the end of year rush doesn't compromise the quality strides made in the 2nd half of 2016.

My Tesla page updated with new format.
Ordered Oct 2
In production since Nov 9

Page says "Estimated Delivery Range: Late November - December"

DS says late next week.

I'm pretty sure I have the record for longest car in production at 31 days and counting.

My MS P90D was delivered today and 2.48.35 was already installed. Is it really a new update? Or a delay in reporting?

Doesn't change the number scale much - but it is the only vin # since 314xx posted online so far. When MS numbers pop up like popcorn at the rate they do, it's strange to see so little talk about MX Vin #s. And the process of creating a "clean vin" for 2017 destined builds may be in effect. Gaston mentions having one Vin # and getting another in his signature. Is that something that can be clarified?

Gaston, in your Vin # 5YJXCCE22GF0338xx is that GF or HF ? H would be a 2017 build.

There's the G character in my VIN, so I guess the car will be built towards the end of this month.
Estimated Delivery says Late March / April, though, which is quite far out considering shipping to Europe usually takes 4-5 weeks.

As to the previous low VIN number in my signature: That car never made it to Europe, because, according to Tesla, there was too much wrong with it. Instead they decided to build a new one for me. That new one was shipped to Europe in October and was one of the last builds with AP Hardware 1.0. When I found out I opted to upgrade to AP Hardware 2.0 (Great service from Tesla) and that's the car that will be built in a few weeks from now with VIN G000338xx.

I have a long post in the investor thread on this, but there is no evidence - anywhere - that Tesla has skipped VINs in recent history. Every single time someone notes a VIN gap they show up in inventory weeks or months later. Even if they did, the clean VIN thing would make 0 sense here because Tesla is still assigning VINs that can be built and delivered in 2016.

Finally, the 33,8xx VIN is basically exactly consistent with where it should be given the production rate this quarter. The last entry in my spreadsheet shows a 31,3xx VIN assigned 11/24. 2 weeks later we are 2500 VINs higher, right where you'd expect, given that about 1000 X VINs/week are being assigned and prior guidance shows a late ramp to higher factory output (2400/week overall) exiting Q4.

I can be wrong but were not, until recently (as it seems that they are only beginning to be produced now), all the 5 seats and RHD car orders awaiting for VIN assignment? This could implicate/explain some jumps in VIN numbers, no?

So, they had built three cars for you! The first one maybe was put in demo for show rooms, the second which came to Europe with the AP 1.0 might go a cheap inventory (by the lack of AP 2.0 hardware), and then the third will be yours! Congrats!

Huh. Last night with the new site design, it still said In Production; I opened the "Request final paperwork" section but didn't submit it. This morning it doesn't say In Production any more, and the Request final paperwork section is marked as complete. Doesn't say In Transit or anything else. I sure hope that means it's out of production (after 23 days).

I'm in the exact same position as you. Couldn't have said it better. New design seems to have bugs or wasn't fully tested because now instead of a clear status message there is a big white blank space below "What's next?"

My car's page has no details about whether it is finished or not. It says:

Model: Model X 90D View Spec
Vin: xxxxxxxxx27xxx
Estimated delivery range: December 28, 2016-January 11, 2017

We are away the first half of January so we likely are going to have some pretty delayed gratification as I don't expect we will see a December delivery.

When I ordered the car I was told given early-mid December on my delivery estimate. I was skeptical then, but told it was likely very accurate. Ha! My S was a month 'late' as well.
