I inquired about that with my most recent purchase and they said I couldn't get it waived. I was actually taking a trip to CA immediately after receiving the car so it was kind of silly, but I paid the 1k fee, picked the car up in Seattle, then drove to CA. This was March 2018. Perhaps they changed the policy since you bought your most recent Tesla.

After further review, I think you're right, atleast on the 1k for Model 3. The 2k for X and S is still removable.

Mine was actually an S. It's possible my delivery guy gave me bad info though. I didn't press too hard. He did say I could pick it up in CA but the fee wouldn't be waived (and I thought it was 1k, not 2k). In the end, due to the uncertainty of the exact delivery time and the fact that I wanted the car ASAP, I just decided it was easier to take delivery in Seattle.

Picked up the car yesterday. No issues at all. The service center was fantastic and the car is pretty close to perfect condition wise. Just one minor blemish on the front bumper that I knew about pre purchase. Did my first super charge in CB before heading home.

Hey all,

Model 3 owner out in Grand Island here. I preordered online, sight unseen (before the reveal event started), and I finally took delivery on May 18th. I opted for home delivery, and Tesla didn't disappoint - covered delivery trailer and everything.

It's. Amazing. I'll upload a current picture after I pick up my custom plates tomorrow. :)

Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself. I hope I can make it to some future meetups!

Awesome! Was yours the only car on the truck? Not sure if you chatted with the driver at all. I see Tesla’s transported on open carriers all the time. Yours is the first I’ve seen in a covered carrier. Pretty nice! I’ve been considering home delivery, but have been worried about the experience/issues with the car.

Also, we’re you a line waiter? Or did you order online post launch?

I did chat with the driver. I was the last stop on his delivery schedule that day. He made multiple deliveries in the Omaha/Lincoln area, and then he actually delivered a Model S to someone in my neighborhood right before delivering mine. Go figure.

I've only seen Teslas on open carriers as well, but the Tesla delivery specialist I worked with in KC said they try to make deliveries in closed carriers. I was quite happy with the home delivery experience.

Also, there is no way it cost less than 1k to deliver it from the factory to my house. :p

I did not wait in line, but I did preorder before the launch event started. There was a 30 minute window where this was possible. My VIN is 184XX.

Does anyone know if I can pay the single plate fee after initially registering my vehicle? I'm thinking I'd like to do that tomorrow when I pick up my custom plate(s) if possible.

You can add the single plate designation to a normal license plate anytime. You have to pay the extra fee ($75) and put a sticker in your front window.

This is correct per my conversation with the DMV, but there are a couple additional caveats. You can only add single plate at the time of registration, and apparently they need to hear that your car did not come from the factory with a built-in front plate holder.

In my case, I'll need to wait until next May to make the single plate switch. Hopefully this information is helpful to others!

Also, here's a current picture of my Model 3!

That's a beautiful looking car! I guess you are best off getting the specialty plate then. :)

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with it even with the front plate. :D

Just in case there are Model 3 owners who haven't seen this, there is a third party company making a wireless charging pad for the 3. Mine is supposed to arrive in a week or two. They've hinted they're going to come out with something similar for the S and X as well.

I'll be curious to hear your review of the charging pad when it comes. I was thinking about ordering it, but then I saw they were having issues with getting them produced and shipped out (sounds like another company I know ;)). Still might buy one, but waiting for more feedback before I pull the trigger. Let us know your thoughts!

Sorry to change the subject....

But OPPD just updated their rebate page. They now list exactly how many rebates are left instead of a dollar amount. Only a few charging station rebates gone, but no EV rebates yet. I'm sure that will change very quickly as people are starting to get their new ones registered.

Absolutely! Will do.

Speaking of charging and reviews, I can highly recommend the Tesla Wall Connector. I have it running on an 80A connection (overkill for the Model 3), but that amperage gives a minimum of 40 m/hr charge regardless of whether it's charging an S/3/X.

P.S. I'm jealous of that OPPD rebate!

That's amazing! I bet you get more than 40 mph charging with 80 amps right? I can get almost 30 mph on my Leaf with a 32 amp connection.

And don't be too jealous, only a select few will get it. 50 is a pretty tiny incentive. (but I'm still glad they did it regardless)

50 is such a small number!

When it comes to Wall Connector charging, 20% of the amperage output from your fuse box is lost in the conversion from AC to DC. Given that, the 3's maximum DC-converted charging amperage is 48A. I *think* I have seen it at 45 mi/hr, but the stated max charging rate (non-Supercharger) is 44 mi/hr.

The other cool thing about Wall Connectors is that you can daisy-chain them, and they dynamically share the available power to most efficiently charge multiple vehicles. Here's a handy chart that shows you all the amperages/rates for an S/3/X.

Oddly enough, the other day when I was snapping some car pictures at the GI Exit Supercharger, I met a guy who works for Tesla out in CA. I found out he works on their batteries, and we got to talking about the differences in the battery tech/design between all Tesla's cars. He says the S/X battery design is better suited for performance (more/smaller cells), and the 3's is better suited for range (fewer/larger cells).

I'm no engineer, but I imagine that accounts for part of the difference between the 3 and the S/X in terms of amperage requirements for an equivalent rate of charging.

50 will take, IMHO, a while to occur. There have not been that many registered in Douglas County in the many years one could get an EV--I think is had been maybe 300 in all the years, so 50 new EVs registered may take a few months (I'm hoping, given mine is due to come in the next 2 to 5 months).

I still cannot believe that 300 EV's in OPPD service area, number. A couple weeks ago, I found myself at an intersection at 132nd and West Dodge. There were 2 Model S's and myself, all staring at one another. So, I guess you could say we were the "1%". :) Both the S owners were checking me out closely. I've only seen two other 3's headed in my opposite direction, and they didn't notice me.
