After doing a ton of research over several months, I took the plunge and ordered a Model 3 today. It's been hectic since a lot of the info on the web was posted before the price and purchasing changes went into effect four days ago (3/1/19). No matter. I'm glad for the lower pricing and looking forward to getting a delivery date. Meanwhile, the only threads I've seen about quality problems are about a year old. Some are pretty ugly, but I'm aware that disgruntled owners are more likely to post than happy ones.

So, I'm looking for the most current experiences (~2019ish) new owners have had, both good and bad. I printed out a six page list of items to check on delivery.. The car is supposed to be delivered to my home and it may take more time than the driver can give me for such a long checklist before I sign the papers and cannot reject the delivery if needed.

This is my first post here and glad to be on board. Thanks in advance for your perspectives.

Welcome and congratulations!

Paint defects are the biggest thing imo. What color is your car?

They don't give you time to really check it at deliver (to your house). Instead you're given 3 days to report anything to the 'due bill' I believe.

I took pictures of all the issues and sent them the due bill with these details. Then they told me to schedule an appointment with service center at which point they would address the issues.

A 6 page check list huh. I think that is a bit excessive. I know a lot of people will disagree with me but check out the car as you would any other new car, and add in any "major" Tesla specific things you might want to be sure to check.

If you are looking for a problem, you will probably find something. If you look at it like you would any other car(maybe just a bit more) then you will find anything major. A 6 page check list is just setting yourself up for failure/headache.

Just my two cents.

I took delivery in December and there were no issues with my car. If you need more time to inspect the car you should discuss it with the delivery specialist. Keep in mind that most of the complaints were related to software and not blemishes. However, any blemishes will be fixed for free. Enjoy!

@jcs3 We have 3 Model 3's. Mine was a December 2017 with just a few tiny issues quickly fixed.

The March 2018 and June 2018 cars were pretty much perfect. Only the June 2018 car had the tiniest dust flake in the paint in an area nobody would ever see.

Don't drive yourself crazy on these forums. Whiners are about 1000% more vocal than happy customers. Some posters are haters that just make stuff up.

Tesla is a fantastic company that takes care of any issues (though I expect you will have zero issues).

Forget the massive checklist...the car is under warranty and if there is an issue Tesla will fix it. What you want to check for are unacceptable body fit and finish issues, scratches, wheel curbed, etc. You want to have these noted and if they are severe enough perhaps not accept delivery, but that is unlikely. I was paranoid and took a really close look at my car at delivery and didn't find anything....not one scratch or swirl mark. I purposely asked for delivery center pickup so I could examine closely under the lights. After delivery I did note that the front and rear door don't align perfectly on the passenger side (at the chrome strip) and I will ask Tesla to fix next time I am having service. I love the car, don't stress about delivery.

oh man, I was really worried about delivery after all the stuff I read, late November delivery.....car was perfect basically. This thing is so much fun to drive, you will forget everything and just have a sore mouth from smiling so much every time you hit the pedal. Don't sweat it, this car will blow your mind!

October 2018 delivery Midnight Silver. Not one issue inside or out. I didn't examine it at delivery, other than major things, but when I got home I did and couldn't find anything. I have never examined a car so closely before. Also, I don't understand the fetish people have with panel gaps. Mine are perfect, but if they weren't, it wouldn't bother me in the least. All Model 3's look good going-down the road and a minor panel gap isn't going to affect the resale value. Why sweat it?

I wouldn't forget the checklist. You really want to find all defects possible right away. Everything I didn't catch I am stuck with. And boy let me tell you about finding defects. I guess I'm just a whiner.
