Debating if the 5k performance upgrade package is worth it. Current configured a performance model with the 18 inch aeros. I know the performance brakes are only on the upgrade package but can you confirm if the calipers are painted on the non upgraded performance model?

I would be interested in if you notice any difference, especially in acceleration, between the one you test drove with the Performance Upgrade Package and yours without it.

Have you tried holding down the sport button in the driving controls to see if it brings up the option to enable track mode? (I don't know if that is how you would get to it but it seems reasonable.)

Did make it out to the mountains and canyons. However, with my wife in the car, I didn't want to push things too hard.

Acceleration seemed the same as with the Performance Upgrade car yesterday. Which is to say, stellar right now punch. Definitely feels like 3.5s 0-60 is about right.

I've got 18-inch, 45-profile tires, rather than the upgraded 20-inch, 35-profile. (Not willing to take on somewhat harsher ride, decreased range, decreased tire life, and increased risk of flats. I've had high-performance cars with low-profile tires before and learned about their shortcomings the hard way.)

The different wheel/tire combo in the $5K Performance Upgrade version, coupled with the lowered suspension, would have to make a meaningful handling difference. However, I couldn't tell today without pushing it ... and I'm not sure I ever push it hard enough to reap the benefits of the 20s.

What is clear is that AWD definitely helps with spirited mountain road driving, just as is the case with Model S. I value AWD most for ski/snow use, but the handling is an awesome fringe benefit.

Bottom line, if you race, or have racer-level driving skills, it would be worth your while to test drive the Upgrade. If not, I'd skip it.

Either way, this will probably be the most fun car you've ever owned, by a wide margin! :)

@ForeverFree should be able to answer that question for you since he picked up his performance Model 3 without the performance upgrade package today. (The picture he posted didn't show the brakes so I couldn't tell.)

my friend and i were 3/31/16 at 5am line waiters northeastern us mall location in NY

he was 3rd in line i was 7th
we both went P except he went white interior i stayed black. he finance and i cash

he got contacted via email (yesterday) and finally got a window of 8/17 - 8/24
although he has no vin yet

i logged into acct (was not prompted by contact) and they asked me to verify (for the second time) my license, ins, payment, and then they gave me confirmation of final payment plus taxes and less resv and dep (which wasn’t seen a week ago when i logged in)
they prompted me to watch the tutorial videos but i didn’t get an updated delivery window (except the aug-oct timeline) or vin

im guessing it’s because the prod line is going to blow through white interior first?? can’t think of any other reason.

side note. a separate friend (2012 S owner and sig X owner) invited and attended 3 reveal party and he didn’t get order invite until well after us two line waiters.

although he went P with white as well and he hasn’t heard yet. it will interesting to see if he gets delivery invite before i do.

then i would assume it’s def due to the white interior production prioritization. we’ll see!

thoughts?

Thanks.. we are going with Tesla financing.. 3.55% APR for simplicity... will pay off early. Delivery set for next Sunday 7/29! (could have gotten delivery as early as Wednesday but wife and I can’t get to Tesla store in time from our work and I have to work Saturday)

Did you look into other options at all for financing? Like Credit Unions etc? Just wondering if you went with Tesla bc they were so close anyways in offers.

Update on my situation: No VIN yet but I got "The Email"! :D:D:D

"The wait is finally over! Your Model 3 delivery will be happening soon."

I emailed the delivery specialist some info he needed. Now I'm hoping to hear back from him tomorrow to find out exactly when the delivery will be. I figure it could be as soon as this week or as late as mid-August like some others in this thread. Presumably that is due to transit and I won't have to wait long, but we shall see...

EDIT: My apologies! In my excitement I forgot to list my details for those interested/in need of data points:

May 20 order
P3D+ // MC Red // White interior // EAP (or, if it's easier, everything but FSD)

What is the email address the delivery email comes from?

It was a specific delivery specialist's email, so [specialistsname] at tesla dot com
Congrats Ryan! I'm a weekly listener.. Want to say thanks and I'm excited to hear your experience as you go through it. I also have a P model on order, everything but FSD, MSM and black seats though. Cheers, hope I get my email/VIN soon too. Did you get the email on a sunday just now at the same time as you posted?

Congrats Ryan. Listened to podcast 155 this morning where you were still waiting (at least as of when you recorded it). How quickly things change. Now if you get it the week after this week it’s going to be along podcast rant about that and coverIng the earnings call!
