P3D- on 18" aeros drag strip runs vs Hellcat and SRT Grand Cherokee

tl;dr 11.6 quarter mile at 116mph; 0-60 in 3.1 with 1' rollout official time slips and dragy reports below

I picked up my P3D- (or is it M3P-, Performance Stealth, Stealth Performance?) last week after selling my Mid Range car. There was nothing wrong with it - quite the opposite actually. I liked it so much I wanted AWD so I could confidently drive year round and in the snow in the mountains, but I didn't want the 20" wheels on the standard Performance model. When the 18" wheeled Performance option opened up again, I jumped at the opportunity and am very happy I did.

I took it to Bandimere Speedway last night which is a drag strip at ~5,800 feet and leaves many ICE cars wheezing from the altitude. I was wondering how well the 18" stock wheels and tires would hook up on the drag strip, but there was zero slippage and it was a riot to accelerate that quickly. I did not adjust the tires which were around 45psi since it was warm and I had driven to the track in a normal mixed highway/traffic commute (mostly on autopilot for good measure :D).

My brother in law took videos of 2 passes, so here are the videos and specs for each race:

no need to use track mode for drag strip. Track mode pre-cools the battery to use as a heatsink, you want the battery to be hot for max power.

Yep - that's why I ran laps with track mode on and without it on. I definitely got a better time without it, but it's good to experiment to have first hand knowledge. I also want to go back with a higher SOC and try a couple of other simple things to see if I can get the time down.

Try it with slip start on, also disengage the H brake before the race. Basically have it not rolling without the brake.
The actuator disengaging probably costs some milliseconds. Awesome results on the p3d-, looking forward to possibly getting after market wheels at 17lbs each, instead of 23lbs aeros.

I was not aware there is a way to turn auto hold off besides turning creep on, and then I would have to hold the brake at the start line with my left foot waiting for the light. I don't think that would be any faster than having auto hold and just flooring it when the light turns green (technically on the last yellow which is how I got 0.06 reaction time). I also looked far and wide and never saw that turning slip start on ever benefited anyone's acceleration times. I tried some 0-60 times with my draggy both with slip start on and off, and I got better results with it off. Either way I still have more experimenting to do including just simply removing the aero covers to drop weight, and my goal is to drop into the 11.5 range with the next run.

I went back to the track with very similar results if not very slightly better numbers. Releasing the brake hold or flooring from hold didn’t seem to matter for times and reaction time was consistent in both as well. I’m happy with the times, but I’m only 2/100s away from the 11.59 mark which is the goal next time. 0-60 improved to 3.09 with rollout from 3.11 last time.

Great numbers! I don’t think most people who’ve never been in a M3 have any idea how quick they are.

Probably asked and answered already, but can you share what app you’re using for data collection?

Sorry didn't see this earlier. @Phlier is correct - it's the Dragy. $149 I believe from Amazon. I think it's a bit expensive for what it is, but it seems to be a "standard" that's easy to compare against similar cars which made it just valuable enough for me to spend the dough. I'm also coming from a world where it's easy to spend $20-30k in mods, so it's refreshing there is little you can do to make a Tesla better. That helped justify the cost...that and the fact you can transport the Dragy into your trash talking buddy's car and prove just how much slower it is than your Tesla :D I have a friend with a fast car and he CLAIMED it will run 11s and 0-60 under 4 seconds here at altitude of over 5k feet, but when I said I have a Dragy to verify that and asked him to come to the drag strip to prove it he calmly declined.

The Dragy is great. I bought one, sold it to my boss because he wanted one for his new Porshche, then I bought another one - performance readings are identical from my past runs. Very consistent and reliable device as far as I am able to tell. I gotta run with it next time I am out on the track...which should be soon now that the weather isn't melting my face off anymore here in Texas.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk would have been a closer and fun race to watch. I have yet to see someone line up with one of those.

Try removing aero caps, no need to put covers for the drag race.
Reduce tire pressure to 40 (that loses some weight on the wheels for faster turning)
Remove trunk carpet and trunk well lid.
Every bit gives it a little more go.
