I agree 100% with you. If those new features came few months down the line, I would not even think about it, but in my case was a matter of 2-3 days. Either way, I love my new P85. I am still afraid to press the gas pedal all the way down :)

Someone is always on the 'wrong' side of these transitions but glad you are enjoying the new car. Congrats.

Thanks! It's like stalk porn.

A few more...

I read on some websites that Tesla said they cannot retrofit those features, but nothing is official yet. There is still hope. Let's wait and see.

This would be the most cost prohibitive upgrade... Ever. Would be far better to just sell your car I think.

Steering wheel, mirror assembly, camera, headliner, windshield, bumper, front grill, new sensors and the radar... Never mind the added wiring all through the car and this would likely cost north of 10k. Unless there is promise of autopilot from this it just isn't worth it.

Or sell your car and order a new one... Would likely be FAR cheaper.

Same here - my car was delivered on September 25th. I cannot believe I have such a bad luck!

I got ya beat. Got her P85 on Monday the 22nd in Van Nuys, no ACC, got my P85+ at the factory the 26th and my DS is going on and on about the cool standard new features... WITH HER NEXT TO ME!

It's been hell ever since... completely ruined her experience.

These arbitrary design changes really aren't cool. It completely takes away from the thrilling experience of getting the car. (Plus her nagging took away from my excitement) Make changes with model years guys... not EVERYTHING needs to be different (Or at least don't send two different cars to the same house days apart)

I agree with the sentiment but I ask you how would it be any different if they had done it on some kind of MY change. Thus isn't like a traditional auto where they heavily discount at the end of the year to move all the old product off the lot. The cars are all custom ordered. So if they announced ahead of time they would be making the switch on X date with NO change in base price everyone would avoid ordering until that date. If they announced on the day that it was released (so no lead time) someone would still miss out on the feature and be upset about it because they ordered one day, one week, one month too early... Whatever. These features haven't been added to the website in any fashion meaning as far as Tesla is concerned they are giving you something for free that you never asked for. This is likely the best way out of the whole mess. If you custom order cars, you have to do things differently.

The problem is that I paid the same price for the car as the person who got the new features 3 days after my delivery. I should at least get a Tesla t-shirt :) I think Tesla should have reflected the new features in the pricing - that way it would be fair to everybody: did not get the new features - well, you did not pay for them; got the new sensors - we can enable them for you for extra $$$. I know this may sound selfish, but I think is the only fair way to have handled that. I feel cheated like I was dealing with an old car salesman who sold me last year's model for this year's pricing. It's still a great car, but I got cheated.

pzz,
since you ordered your car month ago and the new features are even not yet on the official specification, you are verry far away from the right of receiving the feature. Far more then then the 3 days, you are complaining about !

You are Talking about cheating ? Perhaps you just dont like other People have somethingor free you ,dont get.

Stay cool, Tesla was verry fair to give the Sensor Package to some people, who even die not know, that it was in the pipeline when they ordered, but they have to make a cut.

I understand the frustration but really don't think you were cheated. Using your argument the price would always have to go up. Every time a new feature came out Tesla would have to raise the base price or split them out into another package in order to not anger someone. Why would Tesla spend money to put in hardware and then ask someone if they want to pay for it? That would add to the cost of the car. Also, what is an acceptable cutoff? If you set it at 30 days from a feature upgrade for a rebate or something then the person who is at 31 days is upset. Tesla simply can't win. The only solution is to change to model years then they have to hold back on upgrades and sales would be hurt if anything leaked about the new model or people would simply stop ordering around the time of a planned new model year. Very few people buy the old iPhone for example the month before a new one is coming out.

Just curious if anybody has confirmed the device in the front below the bumper is really a radar? Just speculation ... to expect the unexpected from Elon ... since he also mentioned a camera based ACC, could it be a thermal camera (FLIR) as support with the window camera to work for ACC? ... and maybe we will see that the thermal camera images can be streamed to the now higher resolution display to see pedestrian at night or through fog?

So speaking about the new standard features without a price raise, I think this is a sign that they must have really dropped the price of other parts of the car to the point where they felt like it was ok to take a hit on the GM across the board to stick this in the car for free. This was actually what I expected to happen with the company more than price hikes. Because we know that the cost on their most expensive parts of the car is dropping. This from them ramping up economies and finding efficiencies... it only makes sense that when you drop the base cost of the car down to a certain level you could safely add more features in an standard and it makes you have a better product out the gate.

As someone who didn't get these features I am really happy they are doing it this way and I really hope they DON'T raise the prices down the road. Because if they can keep cutting the base cost of the car down like this then one day, when some awesome feature is released, like, I don't know, Autopilot, maybe on the MS you will get it as a standard option! *fingers crossed*!!!!

This is a tough decision for TM/EM. Will they raise the price/have a one time activation fee for these new features (future features?)? It would be a PR positive decision to make it 'free' as my understanding is the hardware is not that costly (Mobileye Roadshow claimed $150/vehicle cost to car manufacturer). However, that has to be balanced with getting more GM from each car that will be quickly put back to making more SCs/furthering the TM mission to advance EVs. This decision is another one beyond my pay grade.

I disagree.

This is Tesla improving the car over time, and at the same time passing the savings they are getting in efficiencies of manufacturing on to the consumer by not raising the price.

I guarantee as many people would have been upset if they dropped the "standard" (without options) price the day after they bought... this happens all the time with devices (like phones, computers, etc...) that advance rapidly and see drops when models with newer features arrive... people get ticked off.

Tesla is changing many things about the car ownership experience... and the concept of large discrete "model year" steps are one of them... we already have seen this as the S wet from 2012 to 2014. They are "versioned" much more like a consumer electronics device... and there are going to be improvments along the way... and some folks will miss them by a small margin. Such is life.

But clearly you can't please all the people: They were criticized for not bing on par with other luxury sedans that had some of these features standard. So no they add them to the standard model, and folks criticize them for not wither waiting to do so, or raising the price. Clearly no good deed goes unpunished...

I, however, applaud them. (Yet I missed out on improved seats, power side mirrors, free parcel shelf, etc...)

We all agree that the continuous roll-out of new software features are one of the attractions of this car vs. the "old way".
It stands to reason, that we should accept changes to the hardware side gracious as well, and try not to feel cheated out of anything. A thought to remember, is that the "receivers" this time around, will miss the next batch of new hardware features.

We are still better of with this manner of roll-out than most other car owners.

Ok, realistically the speed assists can be crowdsourced and be pushed to drivers that do not have that feature (or just used the GPS data for it).
The extra front parking sensors are nice, but not really a "safety" feature.
Line departure is definitely nice, especially on long trips. I understand that this will be difficult and expensive to retrofit and it just doesn't make sense.
Now, the blind spot detection - this is the one feature I want to most. I assume the sensors and indicators are both located in the side mirrors. Shouldn't that be an easy option to upgrade? Just the two mirrors and some extra wiring, or I am wrong?
