Supercharger - Escanaba, MI

Any updates? Been 2.5 months. I'm not expecting much but there's some recent movement on I-94 SCs despite winter.

I wish they would get that location done. It’s been a couple years since they first marked it according to supercharge.info

Just sent them an email. Maybe if they get enough they will respond. I don't really want to spend the night in Escanaba to cross the UP.

I hear it is very nice under the moonlight at the Quality Inn. Plus they have a destination charger that often works.

I have stayed there a couple times. The last time was earlier last summer. They have two chargers. One didn’t work because one of the pins was missing. I assume someone ran over it. I’m glad we have the option to stay there but I too would like to keep driving through a ways instead of being forced to stop there early for the night. I also sent an email.

That one charger has been broken for a while now.

I know we always want more but the supercharger expansion in WI in my 2 years of ownership has been impressive.

No changes. I was thru The Mackinaw location and Escanbo on Sat. Level2 charges in Mac sre open.

Here's the "response" I got from Tesla on my email, asking when they would get to the Escanaba charger:
Hello


Thank you for contacting Tesla. No information is available at this time about the potential supercharging location you have inquired about. Once a supercharger is operational the maps will be updated to reflect this.

The proposed Meijer site has nothing to indicate any future activity. There is plenty of room for such chargers.

This means construction will start in 4 months and be done in 2 years but could take 10 years. ‍

Ok, Is it time in 2020 to pray for Superchargers this year in Esky? Or is it realistically only Year Seven of the countdown.. thread started May 2018, excited comments March 2019, and now in 2020???

Per the Michigan permit site, there was an electric permit issued for Escanaba on 9/24/2019 under the project name "Tesla":

For some reason that location has been stagnant for a couple years. They could build it pretty fast but it just sits there. Maybe this time will be different with the permit renewal. I typically end up staying at hotel there with a charger.

yep, pretty unlikely. I’ve noticed that recent setups In Michigan take 3-6 months post initial construction.

Ouch! Admittedly sooner than @Calimenti predicted, but even Fall 2020 would be nice...

isn’t Giga Buffalo shut down, not making any more Supercharger stands at the moment?

Any other charging locations for those head up that way? We take trip from Chicago to Munising... are there 50A RV areas where some can charge? That Meijer would be AMAZING. That's our stopping point to load up on groceries every year.

The Quality Inn in Escanaba has 2 Destination Chargers, the parking garage in Marquette has 2 J-1772 chargers and, of course, most motels have 120v outlets (for winter guests). When we travel in that area we generally spend the night in Escanaba, charge to 100%, and visit Marquette, Munising, the surrounding area.
