Blog Tesla Cars to Sound Pedestrian Warning With ‘Snake Jazz’

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk says Tesla vehicles will soon play “snake jazz or Polynesian elevator music” out of an external speaker.

Tesla added external speakers in 2019 to be used for pedestrian warning sounds.

The concern is that electric vehicles produce less noise, so pedestrians may not be alerted to a car approaching. Automakers have started adding external speakers to EVs that are meant to act as a warning. Musk says owners will be able to project the music “wherever you go.”

Many try to emulate the sound of a gas-powered car. Tesla cars, it seems, will sound a warning with jazz music. “Snake Jazz” is a reference to the television show “Rick and Morty,” a favorite of Musk. In one episode, snakes develop their own form of jazz music.

While Musk’s announcement sounds like a joke, you have to remember that he promised fart noises for Tesla vehicles and made it happen.

Seriously!!! Have you EVER seen anyone walking or on a bike that does not have headphones or earbuds??? They never hear my awesome music blasting from my M3....so sad. What I think is we need to get rid of all these ridiculously noisy vehicles. What a world it would be to NOT have all that noise around us on a constant basis. #smh

It's not just pedestrians but also cyclists that have trouble hearing EVs. Some sort of approaching sound would be awesome; no microphones, please. Cyclists already get enough vehicle harassment. And before you sound off about crazy cyclists, know that I founded a women's cycling club and coaching business in Portland, OR where we work tirelessly to promote safe and legal biking practices among our members! There. Hopefully we can stay on topic with EV speakers. Admittedly, I kinda opened the door :O
