Tesla Model 3 Accident - Why didnt Airbags Deploy?

The old driving technique of putting your hands at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock on the steering wheel is out due to airbags. They're teaching kids nowadays to do 9 and 3. If you keep your hands at 10 and 2 and the airbag deploys it could break your wrists.
If only car companies would put the turn signal stalks more at the 9 instead of 9:30 or 10 position for easier use...

This is very strange.

Did you remove the TeslaCam drive from the car and look in the RecentClips folder? The most recent hour of video should be in there. The next step is to use an undelete or file recovery program to find all the erased files on the drive.

I cannot imagine how the crash would cause the entire day's video from before the crash (and nothing else) to go missing. Do you remember if the dashcam was working on the day of the crash? I think there is a red dot on the icon on the touchscreen when it's recording.

The dashcam USB storage devices can malfunction and stop recording even if files can still be read from them. If video from that day is not on the drive, my guess is the drive stopped recording that day or was accidentally turned off. I realize this is unlikely and unlucky but I don't think it's possible for a crash to cause videos from that one day to disappear. Newer files are not more fragile than older ones.
Yes this is very strange. Crash happened at 8.40 AM ET. so didn't get a chance to check weather cam was working or not. But i have the last 30 days camera footage on the hard drive except the day of the accident. I never erased any footage. I went to collision center next day to pick up my stuff from the car.

By "hard drive" I assume you mean flash drive or solid state drive because a severe jolt to a hard drive can cause damage to the platter and thus lose files. The car automatically erases older files in the RecentClips folder leaving only the most recent hour of video. A 128G drive could have 24 hours of erased video on it and and only one hour that's not erased.

You say you have 30 days of video. Is this all from incidents that got "recorded" and put into the SavedClips or SentryClips directories? What is in the RecentClips directory? It normally contains the last hour's worth of recorded video and nothing more so it seems unlikely it would have video spanning 30 days.

There are several failure modes that will prevent video of an incident from getting put into the SavedClips directory. You need to look in the RecentClips directory. That directory should have about 5 Gig of data split between 150 to 200 files with the date and time of the videos in the filenames. Knowing the span of date/times of the files in the RecentClips directory may provide a clue as to what is going on.

I have 2022 M3 LR met with an accident on a highway last week. Grand Cherokee hit my car from behind with 100 mph and my car spun multiple times and hit gaurd rail and stopped on the right lane. M3 Severely damaged front & back, Insurance declared total loss. Luckily i have survived the crash without major injuries. I am surprised that air bags never deployed on my Car. Or if your reflexes are good do what race drivers do. Put your hands on your lap if a crash is imminent.

Thanks for your response. No recordings areavailable on the date of the crash. But i was able to get video clips from Tesla. I raised a request for all the details of the Car and thhey sent me video clips of the crash. Video says " View Discretion" ' Video May Contain Graphic Images" with Latitude and Logitude.
