Interesting article linked by Kelvin Yang on twitter that Mitsubishi has produced a new electrolyte for Tesla. It's a short article:

The reasoning behind the complete re-design is not the energy density or efficiency differences of the new cells - it is their form factor. A taller cell won't fit in the old chassis.

I just noticed something worth mentioning here. Elon has approx 39 mil folks on Twitter that follow him. He follows only approx 100 people. 4 of those are analysts at ARK. Think it’s because he appreciates their core beliefs and perspective. Puts more weight on their credibility in the marketplace. ...

From 2012 to 2020 TSLA averaged a 70% annual growth rate (pre-5-1 split pricing shown below). Understanding the larger the Market Cap, the more difficult it is to maintain its growth rate, thought it would be interesting to run a few scenarios. I believe 30% is fair and achievable over the next ten ...

Those push buttons and knobs control the ride height, regen, etc. I also got a kick out of all the ones labeled "Do not use."

Also looked up the timeline, this was Rivian's progress as of September 2019.

Could you post tweet?
Already posted above.

Not sure this is really disappointing, as he qualifies it by saying that it doesn't reach "serious high volume production" until 2022. Doesn't mean what's revealed tomorrow won't be in lower-volume cars (aka Plaid) before then.

Still, it would have been nice of him to announce this much further in advance so that all the super-short-term speculators wouldn't just dump right when they hear it.

On the other hand, Elon has said he doesn't want TSLA to be a short-term speculation stock and would prefer long-term holders, so...

Elon tweeted that effect will be in 2022. 2 mins later tsla drops 20 points.
Must be some power of 2 right?
Apparently some of the existing suppliers were getting annoyed. EM clarification makes sense:

We intend to increase, not reduce battery cell purchases from Panasonic, LG & CATL (possibly other partners too). However, even with our cell suppliers going at maximum speed, we still foresee significant shortages in 2022 & beyond unless we also take action ourselves.

His phasing could have been better lol. "Demand will exceed supply" would have been a far preferable choice of words to "shortage"

It's the right word. He said shortages UNLESS we take action ourselves. ie. we see a problem 2 years from now and we're addressing it. Of course, the majority of the press who have a reading comprehensive level of grade 5, probably won't realize this.

Lol Elon and his tweets. It's going to be an interesting 24 hours now

Edit: thank god for the follow up tweet. In the 3 minutes between the two it went from +1% to -3% after hours

It is crazy how much the stock reacts to his tweets.

Elon: We are laying the roadmap and groundwork for battery improvements. Don’t expect immediate results.

Market: Battery day is already a disappointment. Sell sell sell...

Elon: Just to clarify we want to make sure we address the supply constraints.

Market: Ok great but still not good enough. Sell sell sell.

I’m actually glad the speculators will get out before battery day, got too many of those in today’s market. Let’s focus on the mission and kill some legacy car makers along the way.

Or maybe Elon is playing 4D chess with the shorts and short term traders.

Lol, amazing people are surprised by the contents of that tweet(not here, but apparently investors are uninformed).

A 2022 "serious high production" lines up perfectly with Giga Berlin and Giga Texas finishing construction in mid 2021 and gearing up for mass production by the end of the 2021.

Curious though as to why Elon felt like he needed to tweet that out. Why not just wait until tomorrow? He's clearly talking about whatever they show at Battery Day not showing up in the 3 or Y until 2022. Maybe he wants to squash any speculation of 3/Y getting the battery tech but again, why not wait till tomorrow?
