From a hiring perspective I’m a little disappointed in Elon’s response to the question about open source. I wish he’d taken the opportunity to say something about encouraging all Tesla AI researchers to publish papers and speak publicly about their work. In my anecdotal work experience, that’s something the best AI minds care deeply about.

Please - someone ask questions on the robot - I don't think Tesla has the technolog to make that beast, BostonDyn has pneumatics for everything (afaik) - Tesla uses no pneumatics today (well maybe in the FalconWingDoors?) - so this is no easy thing

This. I felt a bit sad that this didn't happen just after I was working with complex math. I would have been pounding on Tesla's door the next week and begging for a job. I'm not at that level now.

With Elon's concern for A.I., I suspect the robot code will include procedures for watching for and attempting to protect humans in the event of a robot / A.I. uprising.

This all seems like an excellent recruiting event to move all the engineers working at Boston Dynamics over to Tesla.
