I think Tesla missed an opportunity to better position this truck. What they should have done is unveil it as the SpaceX Mars Rover. Talked about its capabilities, plans for use on Mars. Showed it off a bit. Then, the surprise reveal - "We'll also sell you one."

Many people might be put off owning a weird truck, but would be excited to "Own a Mars rover." All about how you frame it.
