My Tesla Rep got some pictures yesterday of a new Red S sitting next to a Sig S. Here they are:

To say I can't wait would be a severe understatement.

I think they made the red a little lighter from the red I drove in last summer's Ampted Tour. Look.

My rep was very specific in saying that he thought his pictures don't really do justice to how beautiful the new color is. He pointed out the pink tint in the highlights as being an artifact of the picture taking, and said the pictures don't really show the depth and beauty of the paint flake at all.

So... what to expect next? Email from Tesla that I have my VIN? App recognition of my car? A change on My Garage on the Tesla site? Last communication was a financing approval. I have a delivery window of 4/26-5/5. I can hardly contain my excitement seeing those shots of real-life reds!

I thought it took at least four days to build a Model S? If they just started building the reds on Monday, I'm surprised that we're seeing real cars on Wednesday afternoon. Or do I have my timelines wrong?

I think the 4/8 date was the end of line date for the first batch. So if the cars completed Monday, it seems logical to think we would see them on the test track Tues/Wed.

Everyone thinks their camera captures the true red color. It doesn't.
Everyone thinks their monitor displays the true red color. It doesn't.
Everyone thinks indoor lighting, halogen lighting, florescent lighting and incandescent lighting best capture the real color. They don't.

Has anyone noticed the beautiful gray? It shimmers in the light, it threatens in the dark, and it purrs in the shade. Beautiful tonality and it's not even a true "color". So let's give up trying to define the new red, the old red, the multi-coat red in photographs taken by all of us. If you want to get the best and most accurate portal, IMHO, go look at the Motor Trend photos. They were done in a studio, under ideal lighting conditions, with perfect color balance, on an expensive camera. And even they look different frame to frame. But beautiful all!

Sorry to sound strident. Don't really mean to. I've been wanting to offer my two cents (not worth any more) for a while! In the meantime keep posting the photos. They're all beautiful and I love seeing them. Just don't try to define the actual color by what you see in pixels. :frown:

Agree totally. Let's just end all of the speculation.

Hey man, you're killing my high. Stop with the logical mumbo jumbo. We're in the desert looking out at an oasis 10 miles away.

My car #7767 is complete and ready for shipping!

Just spoke w delivery specialist who says my car is ready to ship to Tampa and should be loaded in next 24-48 hours and appx one week till I pick up. She says it is her very first of the new red and at hq they have one of the new red ones "that looks just like the picture of the motortrend car of the year and everyone says it looks gorgeous"!

Boy wish I was doing Fremont pick up today! Please someone get pics in the daylight!

Hardly believe after all this waiting!

Congrats xhawk on your car being ready to ship! Hard to believe indeed!

I was curious about mine since I hadn't received a VIN yet and my delivery window is 4/17-5/1 so I called my DS today. He initially said they don't yet have a VIN for mine and later he sent me an email indicating that the VIN hadn't "pushed into their system". I'm assuming this refers to some integration between TM manufacturing system and the order mgt system, but nonetheless he tracked down my VIN - 8363!

Excited to get to this step, but wanted your guidance on what to expect next? How many days between receiving your VIN, it showing up in the app and/or on your MyTesla page, and any other communication you've received along the way. He indicated he would send my paperwork once they get the VIN "into the system", so I'm assuming that will come next... Thanks for any guidance!

Anticipating!

@Ohms.Law I agree with your comments on photos and screen displays, but I must add that the 4 REDs I saw, from about 100 yards away, and through two chainlink fences this morning where BEAUTIFU|L! The color looked much better to me then the RED I saw last summer in Palo Alto. I also noted that the color changed in different light/shade. I can.t wait to see it up close......
