You cant get these tariffs anymore.. At least for the foreseeable or when the energy market settles which could be many months away.
This is incorrect.
A little off topic but what is your peak rate and night rate cost per KWh with Octopus?
Put your postcode in and check:
Octopus Energy

Smart meter and giving them 30 minute readings are mandatory to have the tariff.
Peak 15pkw and off peak 5p. Got lucky securing this rate before prices went up.
Even the on-peak is better than their current variable, which is what I was on before as my fixed deal had ended.

Usually would charge the Leaf from solar during the day, it only managed 3.3kw as it was originally a PCP and had no upgraded charger so it was not hard to stay within the solar output for the main part of the day (free motoring!).

Its so dark in winter and M3 can charge 30A on our EO charger so went GO, so tip for those with the same tariff. The Tesla has no timed to/from charge like a Leaf, they added off peak stop time but you have to use departure time to set that (can’t seem to use start charging time).

It had me scratching my head for a while so if it helps others:
1. Set departure time for morning e.g. 8am
2. Set off peak end time (4:30am for GO)
3. Quick napkin maths and set charge limit so your not too far outside the window (assuming your not going to 100% for long trip).
4. Plug-in and wait, should not go green and start charging when you plug-in.

The first night we had about 35% battery and 4 hours * 7kW is 28kWh, it’s about 80kwh pack, set charge limit to 70% which seems ”close enough”.

Seemed to have worked:

So say 28kWh at 5p, that’s £1.40? So less than a litre of petrol for about 90 miles range.

Just pretend the car was not £50k and it feels like your saving a fortune! ;)

This is Serenity 😍

Collection was super straightforward. I had a walk around first, to see if I could see her, forgetting that she’d be in the tent. Most of the cars outside had no plates yet. Went into the customer area, showed my driving license and signed the tablet. Quit the Tesla app and loaded it up: boom, there she is!

Got escorted to the car, had a walkaround with the checklist and everything was where it should be. Only 8 miles on the odometer. Didn’t check the SoC, but the display said 161 miles, so no anxiety about getting home.

The only real issue was the lack of space to get out of the tent, and then the car park as a transporter was pulling in with a load more Model 3s. It was all a little tight (which was something of a concern for me since I previously kerbed the M3P that Tesla MK loaned me, quite badly, whilst navigating tight bends in a local village). Luckily, this time we escaped unscathed.

The driving mode was preset to Chill, so I‘m going to spend some time getting used to that before I switch to Standard. It’ll be like having a new car all over again 🙂

When I got home, the Tesla app reported that software version 2021.40.whatever was available for download, so I did that while it was charging.

Haven’t managed to get Spotify working with the Tesla account yet, but in fairness I haven’t really tried. I remember seeing some tips about that on the forums here, so I’ll do some searching tomorrow, or whenever; it’s not urgent.

It’s a bad deal.

Their day rate goes up to 25p (mines currently 21) and their night time tariff is 5p.

Yeh so I charge the car up cheap but everything else I have becomes more expensive by 5p and I run a lot more in the day than at night.

Looks good on the outside, yes you can say your car charged cheap but you get stitched up in the day.

There’s no good deals to be had with energy now, where I live in london anyway.

Picked it up! Great experience. Came with 150 miles charge and only negative looked like it had been wiped with a floor mop! But it’s such an amazing car. Now charging…
