This is a peek at our 2015 design study for the UP Model X program. The final UP Model X is considerably evolved from this concept and is now nearing its debut!

From design concept to finished product in a matter of months. Here's a full first look at our Unplugged Performance Model X.

The X is running our Complete Performance Aero Kit, Rear Decklid Spoiler, 22" UP-02 wheels, Super Light Carbon Ceramic Front Big Brake Kit, custom carbon fiber rear wing, chrome delete and full vinyl wrap.

It is easy to make Photoshop images, but there is blood, sweat and tears into making real products. This front end started more than a year ago, even before the Model X was unveiled. It went through revision after revision. Our earliest concepts still had nose-cones! Thats how long we've been at thisThe Model X is a very challenging platform design wise. What you are looking at is the bumper being hand modeled 1:1 after previously being created digitally. We opted to hand shape versus to mill the part since there was a lot of thinking and adjustment on the fly day to day based on a wide range of variables.

everything takes careful consideration - even down to the little inlet ducts that feed the factory plastic duct that routes air from the fog light area behind the bumper out the wheel arch molding.

Here are how those ducts look now

The rear consists of an aerodynamic wing extension to the trunk lid and a very comprehensive redesigned rear bumper including rear under tray. We used 3D scanning, CAD design, rapid prototyping and hand shaping all in our final process to create the custom parts.

The rear bumper was an insane amount of work. Here it is being hand shaped (upside down). It has integrated exit ducts for air flow (similar to how the front bumper works but on the opposite end)

Here is the rear bumper (upside down again) after a fresh coat of primer
