Here's a wrinkle: Father borrow's daughter's new Tesla, speeds, and winds up wrecking. Daughter tries to blame Tesla for bad brakes. :D

Data comes from CA Energy Department which also shows breakdowns by model, year, etc. These are registrations, which lag sales. That's why they show 1923 Tesla S/X in Q1 2021 when Tesla only reports 2030 worldwide. Some of CA's 1923 were December sales which didn't get registered until January. Still, there's data about Volt, Prius Prime (and now RAV4 Prime) and so forth. You can see how Model S slowed in 2018 then crashed while Model X held up relatively well. Lots of interesting info.

Very cool

Tesla accounted for 31.724 or 74% of the 42.866 BEVs sold in California in Q1 2021

Last year Tesla accounted for 83,469 or 79% of the 105,946 BEVs sold in California

Chevy (Bolt) was the #2 manufacturer in both periods with 10-12% share. Ford, Audi, Porsche, Hyundai, etc. have 1-2% shares

In Q1, the EV automaker registered 71,345 vehicles, which is an increase of 52 percent from Q1 of last year. BMW remained in the lead with 84,397 registrations, Lexus was behind with 80,166, and Mercedes-Benz third with 77,826 registrations. Audi was passed by Tesla in 2020 and remains fifth.

So what quarter do they take the title? I'm looking at Q1 2022

From that same report: It's disappointing how many people think EVs are less reliable or less fun to drive than ICE:

Half the reason I bought my Model 3 was the fact that I was sick of paying my local Ford dealership hundreds of dollars every other month to keep my hunk of junk running.

If Tesla hadn't shut down S/X production, they'd likely have passed Nissan.
