What's with the "Verified owner" BS on Tesla's official forums?

I want to lodge a complaint about features, and I can't, because I need to be a verified owner? My username and password is attached to my car... what else do they want from me?

This beeping warning crap has got to stop. This forcing you into safety features that WILL cause accidents needs to stop. I can't go through a drive thru without getting beeps at least 10 times, warning me that I may hit a curb that I see in front of me and will not hit. I have had a time where I was close to a parked car on a busy street, and needed to accelerate into 45 mph traffic quickly when the car automatically applied brakes thinking I would hit the car in front of me that I would not have hit. That sudden brakes with my diagonal into traffic almost caused a car accident.

I also had a moment where I needed to suddenly merge out of a lane of traffic into another, and my vehicle tried to force me back into the lane I was in, thinking I was drifting and was going to get in an accident if it didn't correct my driving habits! The last thing I need is having to make a split second decision, and then my car beeping at me, drawing my eyes to a console that's warning me of what I can already see and am making evasive maneuvers to avoid!

I'm 38 with no joke, 1mil+ miles under my belt (no exaggeration). In my lifetime I've had 0 at fault accidents, and very few actual accidents in general. I learn my vehicle to the point where I know it's exact drift limits in wet and dry conditions. I've been able to take past vehicles and do a 180 degree drift into a parking space and end up perfectly centered and straight. While the Tesla focuses on making sure you never drift, the point is that I know any vehicle I choose to drive extremely well, and don't need buzzers to let me know what's going on. I appreciate the visible notifications as to how close I'm getting to a curb stop I can't see, and that has been helpful, but I don't need it beeping because I'm backing up next to some overhanging plants I can see and I'm about to hit a solid object according to the Tesla, and it will destroy my vehicle. It's some leaves... leave me alone!

The Tesla forums just drop a note to them [email protected] using the same email you used in your online Tesla account.
This was done to prevent folks from spamming the board with new topics/posts like hair loss products, porn, reduce your credit debt, etc. You can currently reply to any post just not create new ones.

Also the “official” forums aren’t designed to be a way to lodge complaints. It certainly doesn’t work that way. And as mentioned above, you can easily mute those beeps. Just don’t complain and blame Tesla when you have an accident.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you but I share your concern over the forced features, opt-out vs opt-in.. the comment about beeps is true, you can disable but some things (AEB for example) refuse to maintain your selection and require you to reconfigure your car each drive (sigh!)

If you find out a way that get's Tesla ear on some of these issues, please share. I've sent email to customer support w/no replies...

Let me be helpful first...email Tesla as directed on the forums if you want to get verified. Email Tesla directly through your account any complaints you have.

So you can't follow directions on the Tesla Forums site
You say you "learn my vehicle..." yet are unable to or unwilling to learn how your Tesla works
And you actually think that making complaints on this forum or even the effectively un-monitored Tesla forum will actually do anything.

I am 40 and "no joke" less than a half mil miles under my belt(also not exaggerating)...and I have a good understanding of my Model 3's limits and the way it's features work.

This is pretty serious if you were using your indicator. In all of the other vehicles I've driven with lane keep (or similar nanny systems), the indicator prevents the vehicle from overriding driver control. I believe all Teslas respect the indicator, or at least have in my experience.

BTW, drifting is illegal in California, where you appear to be. If you ever pulled a stunt like drifting into a parking space near me, I would call the cops.
 
FWIW i find the new lane keeping stuff too aggressive and doesn't understand moving into lanes that are expanding.

It doesn't always handle expanding lanes badly. I have many expanding lanes on my daily commute and I would say maybe a little more than half of them are a little rough but the rest are smooth and the car doesn't swerve over.

The behavior changes a bit occasionally with a new firmware release.

sure, and to be specific it doesn't handle moving into an expanding lane very well, even if i have a signal on which seems kinda odd. IMO it should have been an opt in until it's improved to the point it doesn't false alarm as much.
 
So I didn't see an option to remove the audible warnings for things like "you're going to hit the car in front of you" or "You're going to hit the curb in the drive threw, or on the road you are on because the lane is drifting to the left and you haven't yet started your left drift to match the curve". I've had friends in the vehicle with me as well, while we are driving, where all of the sudden it starts beeping, and they are like "WTF is that about?!?!" and we look at the display to see the vehicle in front of us is red, yet I'm not near about to hit the person, and I was able to slow down to compensate for their slowing down, only using regenerative braking, so obviously it wasn't anywhere near a close call. What would this feature be called to disable it, and does it just disable the sounds? As I said before, I do like the feature where it will tell you how close you are to a curb, or other objects that are outside your view.

As for my drifting statement, the point was that I know my cars extremely well. Yes, it's illegal to drift, but if it's late at night in an area with no cars, when I'm newer with a vehicle, I like to push the limits a bit, knowing I have a large open space and nobody/nothing to accidentally hit, so I can understand the limitation of that vehicle. Without going into details, knowing those limitations has helped me avoid accidents that would have been accidents had I not known the limitations of my vehicles. I don't regularly make a habit of drifting, and I've never been good enough to do what the stunt drivers do with drifting parallel parking etc.. I just learn my car and it's every limits/it's drift point so I know just how hard I can push it without getting into trouble. Same with my motorcycles (though I'd never drift those! The balls on the guys who drive drift bikes!!! not me!). Have to know what the edge is as to how far you can bank the bike without sliding out with how much throttle.

Anyways.. I digress. I've driven all of my life with very few accidents and the warnings, and suddenly taking control of your vehicle is going to cause an accident. Even if you can push past it's taking control of a vehicle, like merging off an offramp and it trying to keep you on the freeway. The sudden jerk of the steering wheel, even if it's light, in the opposite direction, can startle you when it catches you off guard/unexpectedly, especially if you are merging off in to an offramp that's already backed up with vehicles and people are making poor decisions as to where to go/driving on shoulders to make left/right turns past traffic. You need your full wits about you and not be distracted by the car deciding it wants to do something else!

Oh, and I did email Tesla at that email before I made this post. They still haven't responded to it two days later. My point with that was the fact that they already know you are a vehicle owner and not a spammer without having to be manually approved. The account either has a vehicle assigned to it or it does not. It's not hard to make the program look at the VIN column of the account, and if the entry is "Null" or blank, the person does not have a vehicle, but if it has a vin number, then the person is a vehicle owner, and they should be given immediate access. This alone is all they need to prevent the spam bots. Yes, anyone can make a Tesla account, but only a vehicle being added to the account, purchased, and delivered, will the account show a vehicle registered to it.

Happened to me two or three times with the indicator on, once this morning as I was trying to merge into a lane going faster than me. I started my lane change while there was a car next to me but going faster...I was anticipating them passing. So it's not lane departure warning, but the blind spot emergency correction thing, whatever that's called. Regardless, it's not difficult at all to steer through the relatively weak correction maneuver. I find it slightly annoying but not dangerous by any means.
