Will You Love Your Model 3?

On Reddit, Steve Wozniak said he absolutely loves his Tesla car. "I [kind of] look over at my wife, and I just smile," when he drives, he added.

I have received my S85D for 15 days now and like every other Tesla owner I enjoy every minute of it.

The question to you as the prospective Model 3 owner having not seen or test driving it: how confident you think Model 3 will offer the same level of satisfaction as Model S & X despite it may not be as luxury (after whatever it trimmed down from $70,000 to $35,000)?

for me its not will I love the model 3, its whats the alternative?

Leaf: 100 mi is decent but the car doesn't have the creature comforts that I want
Volt: 40-50 mi sucks, ICE, still has oil changes, gas, etc
prius: still has ICE
bmw i3: decent range but for the same price I can get a model 3 that is a bigger car
Bolt: 200 mi is great but again no creature comforts

Of all the axes upon which you can rank a car, "luxury" is at the bottom of my priority list. Ergo, if the only difference between the S and 3 is the level of luxury, I'll be just as satisfied with a 3 as with the an S.

In fact, I'll may well be happy with the 3 than an S. I don't like showing off my wealth (or at least, ability to buy a $100k car), I'm not a "keep up with the Joneses" type, I will likely consider the 3 a better value, and the S is too big for my tastes.

I guess it is going to depend on how barebones they go with the 3. I love my Volt because even though it is a GM, it drives as nice and has all the same features (leather seats, Nav, etc) as my prior Lexus. So I didn't feel like I was "downgrading" to drive EV.

If they don't allow us to option up a 3 to that same standard (no leather seats, etc), then I won't be happy and might just buy a CPO Autopilot S (assuming they come down in price once we are at that point. )

I have no idea if I'll love it or not. You're asking me about a car that I haven't seen, and haven't driven. But no matter what, I'll like it more than the car I'm driving now.

My husband and I met through a car forum. We both have Ford Fiestas of the same year, trim, and color. We do love our cars. Not as much as we love each other or the living beings in our lives, but as much as one loves any object we love our Fiestas. They're not perfect, but they're ours.

We both did test drives of a low-end spec model S, and absolutely loved it. While I expect the 3 to be lower performance, it'll still be a Tesla. It'll still have the all-electric oomph, wow, and fun factors. I'm sure we'll love our 3 -- it's in both our natures.

Umn... it's a car.

I enjoy driving the Model S. My wife enjoys driving the Model S. I hope to enjoy driving the Model 3. I no longer enjoy driving ICE's, but if the Model 3 is hideous, then we'll get an ICE.

I will love it... And hug it... And kiss it... And squeeze it... And call it 'George'...

I think I have the potential to be highly satisfied with the Model 3. As mentioned up-thread, we also live below our means and though I want, and will be getting, a Model S later this year, I'll feel much more comfortable driving a less "luxury" car that still has the main features I'm interested in: All Electric, comfortable, quality.

A Model 3 will probably lead to less stress than the Model S. Less worrying about where to park such a large and expensive car so it doesn't get dinged or vandalized. Less worrying about getting into a 20-30k "fender-bender". Less worrying about getting pulled over for any little issue.

I'll be very happy to hand over the MS to my wife for her very short commutes and also use it for family road trips and evening/weekend duty. The M3 will be better for me to do my occasional 130 mile RT commute to work where our office is not in the nicest area.

So yes, I'll probably love it but more importantly, I'll be satisfied with it.

This is an odd post, but maybe a fun inquiry anyway. None of us "love" the imaginary Model 3.

Recently I have changed my position on this and now accept that I do love my Model S. I enjoyed it immensely from the date of delivery 22,000 miles ago. As days went by, with software upgrades, the relationship deepened. Instead of the "newness" wearing off, I actually enjoyed the relationship more. The process of anthromorphism started when I named her. "Taima" takes good care of me and I try to be good to her too.

I have confidence that TMC will deliver a product that I want, as our second car. I am not as confident that it will provide the performance and amenities that make the Model S a superlative driving experience. There's no way that I would consider trading Taima for the Model 3; even driving the other car may feel like cheating on Taima. Yeah, I have problems.

I have high hopes, but they're tempered by experience. In order of reliability, my cars have been:

1) 1993 Nissan Sentra
2) 2003 Mazda Protegé5
3) 2011 Hyundai Sonata (present)
4) 2000 Volkswagen GTI VR6 (Would rank it 10th, if I could)

I have heard mixed experiences with Tesla products. I'm hopeful I'll have a positive experience, but with any new car, there may be some hiccups.

The love of cars can be a lifelong pursuit. In my case:

Model S replaces a 2011 Chevrolet Volt
Model X replaces a 2009 Cadillac Escalade
Model 3 replaces a 2004 Cadillac XLR

What's not to love, except maybe the Model 3 color choice?

Why? All three GM cars were purchased with Crystal Red Tintcoat.
Model S and X are Signature Red.
Hopefully Tesla Motors will surprise us with a lovely shade of red for Model 3 or better yet, a pallet with a dozen colors.

Yeah, as an owner of a 2012 Volt, I'll be expecting some bugs with the first Model 3s. I had my volt in for repairs about four times in the first year. The best issue I happened to have was the factory putting Chevy Cruze handles on the passenger side doors so I couldn't remotely lock or unlock my doors with a fob.

It took two weeks and a "Volt Specialist" from Detroit to figure out the problem. All in all, it took a month for that repair to happen. So, here's hoping Fremont can put the correct door handles on the Model 3.
