Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Also Longs: When the share price gets to $XXX I can sell some shares and buy a Tesla! I was one of those longs and fortunately already have two Teslas. Today didn't help that second statement for anyone that was waiting.

I just bought calls and puts.... cause its Friday mid-day, there isn't much time premium and i doubt the price will close where it is currently trading.

I highly doubt this. The only way I see that happening is if he puts the country on lock down over the weekend. The only time I recall this ever happening was after 9/11 (not including the 1 day the market closed for Ford's death). Hmmm... Ford's death... hmmm

All you have to do is hit the stalk up or down and it engages. If I turn the wipers on/off, my hand is literally an inch or so away from it and it doesn't take much to engage cruise control which would be 'unintended acceleration', even though it is a driver error. Since I have done it myself...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yup... same thing happens to me at least once a week. I always realize when I hit the stalk, and the car chimes when you do it, but I would be willing to bet a lot of the cases are from this.

Yes, and some call options along the way as well that paid for both my and my wife's new cars, (spoiler: they are both used Tesla's)

Just thought I would check in and say hello. The comment above was posted when TSLA was sub $200. There were 9 people that disagreed with the comment, 2 people through it was funny (as if I was making a joke), 1 person called me out saying I was lying short troll (never understood that theory)...

Very informative. Thank you. It would be interesting to know what the Nasdaq did those days as well.

We are still tracking somewhat closely to the prior year charts after 2018's Q3 earnings. If we follow them again today, we should end up 2%-3% today. I imagine a lot will depend on the Fed at 2pm eastern.

I couldn't believe how cheap the options were on Friday morning for a 5% jump. I loaded up on $305's and ended up making low 6 figures on Friday, let alone what i made on Thursday. How am I celebrating the past two trading days? My wife and I are both getting Tesla's!

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It's worth noting what happened to the stock after Q3 2018 earnings. The day after PY earnings (Oct 25th 2018), TSLA opened up 10.0% at $317.22 (from $288.50) and closed at $314.86 after falling to the low of the day of $301.01. There was a somewhat similar pattern yesterday, huge gap up...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Unfortunately, I was right. I imagine we are close to being at the low for the day though. I just dabbled with a few $250 strike lottery tickets for today. (Obviously a very small bet that is just for fun and am fine losing all of it if TSLA goes below $250 today). Edit: Caught the falling...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I was thinking the same thing. With MaxP being so low on a monthly expiration, I can see it giving up a few more dollars before the end of the day if the macros don't turn around.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I see what you mean but they are still taking a decent amount of risk doing that. I often change/cancel my limit orders and if I change my order after they bought ahead of me, they are fully exposed to what they bought. For example, if I put in a limit order at $230 and they buy when the price...

Whats the saying, even a broke clock is correct twice a day? (I'm pretty sure this is the first time I actually had a prediction that was close to being correct)

  17. B

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed. My wild guess is that we bottom out in the next half hour or so and start a slow climb for the rest of the day back to $232-233 by the end of the day.
  18. B

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I maybe wrong here but it's not possible to front-run limit orders, so as long as it is a limit order, they do not profit at all (from the trade at least)

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

From what I recall (a little fuzzy at this point), it was an email from the CFO saying they still had 30k cars to be delivered within the last few weeks of the quarter. At that point, TMC believed it was bullish as we thought there were already 40k-50k deliveries in that Q, when in reality, it...
  21. B

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Right. The Q1 email leak could have been read as being bullish and we all know how that turned out.
  22. B

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Elon sandbag the numbers a bit in his Q2 email leak? If so, its possible 100k is very likely and over 100k is probable. Even if they don't hit 100k but beat Q2 numbers, it is still a significant accomplishment.

Maybe today's price action is offsetting some of the selling pressure from Friday? Quad witching or something like that? And were not even close to Halloween yet.
  24. B

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Do you think there will be positive pressure on Monday to counter act the quadruple downward pressure today? Meaning, any idea if the short sellers opened short positions today that they will sell on Monday or if they bought long positions in the previous day or so with the intention of...

The Friday before labor day last year had 5.4m shares traded. The avg before and after labor day was around 7.5m. Compared to this year where we are avg around 5m shares this week. We probably would have had 3-4 million shares traded today without any news which would have been easier to...

I think Jack Ma embarrassed himself next to Elon. Ma - "Humans created computers. Computers never created a human, therefore humans are smarter than computers." Elon - (thinking to himself) "How was this guy picked to discuss AI alongside me? This guy is an idiot."

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

If it holds, today is the tightest range since Feb 3, 2017 when the difference between the high and low was $2.50, which was on very light volume of 2.2 million shares.
  28. B

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The difference between the high and low today (so far) is $2.76. This is the tightest range of any day in the last year (if it holds). The 2nd ($3.59), 3rd ($3.72) and 4th ($3.86) tightest range days in the last year all came in July. Also, it doesn't exactly correlate to volume as a couple...

Looks like you were right and I was wrong. I predicted $250 by the end of today. I still think it gets there relatively quickly, just not by the end of today.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

$233 pre-market is a clear over reaction, right? If I would have read the quarterly letter without seeing the share price, I would have guess we were somewhere from $250-$270. Once I heard about JB leaving, i would have guessed we were closer to the $250 level. I think it recovers to $250...

In case anyone forgot, Elon from the shareholder meeting: "So, we’re actually doing well, and we have a decent shot at a record quarter on every level. If not, it’s going to be very close." We will see what "every level" means this afternoon.

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

Thank you for posting. These are very helpful. One question I have is if you took into account the cost cutting initiatives? Is it possible lower expenses could be a bit of a surprise this quarter as Elon and the CFO are signing off of expense reports, headcount has been reduced previously, etc?

OT Does anyone have a presentation on TSLA they can share? I am talking to a well-to-do family member next week and am going to try and have them buy shares of TSLA (would be a somewhat significant purchase for a retail investor but is minuscule in the big picture). The investor asked to see...

I believe most of the dry powder was already used up before we got below $200. I know I was completely out of powder below $200 and had to borrow funds to buy sub $200 (which was a very difficult financial decision to make). When the stock was in the upper $300's getting TSLA sub-$300 seemed...

You should probably get your wife's permission before buying back in if you promised her to cut back at $180. Maybe set up a few different scenarios and get her take on it. :)

Great advice! Yes, I have thought through all possible outcomes (I am a Level 1 CFA so I am very familiar with markets and fully understand what "can happen" as others have pointed out) and I promise I am not a troll. Let me emphasize that I will still have a comfortable lifestyle if Tesla...

First time poster (long time lurker)... As my user name suggests, I am about to make, by far, the largest bet of my life and will be buying 1,000 shares of Tesla once the funds clear in about a week or so. I will be using a good amount of borrowed money to make the purchase (which includes...
