    Wall Connector installed ✅

In Ontario: As the settings are adjustable via Wi-Fi and the use of a tool is not required to open the enclosure to change the settings, the full nameplate rating of the EVSE (48 amps) must be used to determine branch circuit and disconnect requirements. In short, a Gen 3 wall connector has to...

Mobile Connector no longer included with new cars [posted 04/16/2022 - Tesla confirms adapter included with cars ordered before 04/17/22]

It's to prevent people from buying and reselling at a higher cost due to the panic this announcement caused. It's happened with wall connectors many times.

Gen 2 Mobile Connector - Included or Not?

Unless Tesla themselves finally comes out and says it's included, don't count on receiving one with your vehicle.

Huge code violation with this installation. Was it even ESA inspected?

When was this recent change? 75c rating has always been allowed in Canada for as long as I can remember.

Where to find NMD90 6/3 in these times.

8/3 is good for 50 amps so why go with 6/3 if you only draw 32 amps?

    Ontario home charger

This is the worst reason to hire someone other than someone that really know what they're doing for EV charger power circuits. Hire Tesla certified, it makes any warranty claims regarding charging equipment a breeze with Tesla. Tesla certified electricians have to send a detailed report back to...

Gen3 Wall Connector Question - load sharing?

Im still not getting this. If two wall connectors are fed from a sub panel with 2 separate 60 amp breakers, how can it be acceptable that the breaker feeding the sub panel is 60 amps and be code compliant? Maybe in the states you have different codes. If load sharing is enable this will work...

Gen3 Wall Connector Question - load sharing?

This is really cool. So can two hpwc's be fed from one 60 amp circuit like the gen 2 with a splitter box?
  14. T

Gen3 Wall Connector Question - load sharing?

Looks like Here in Ontario Canada, all gen 3s need a 60 amp breaker and #6 wire because the current can be cranked up far to easily over the network.
  15. T

Gen3 Wall Connector Question - load sharing?

This is dumb. If we need to install 2 dedicated circuits for these gen 3 wall connectors, whats to stop someone from disabling the load sharing feature and overloading the circuit? Where I live, the inspectors would want to see a load calculation based on each circuit. They are not going to care...

Does anyone charge using an extension cord from their dryer plug?

If Tesla recommends against this, why question it? I think you need to talk to your home insurer first. You probably wont be covered if something fails while charging this way.

[Ontario] ESA costs for inspecting EV Charger

You may have paid less overall by going with the lower overall price. But it's obvious which of those electricians was the more honest of the two. At $79, the electrician is charging you what he actually pays for the permit, no mark up. Something tells me you would have had a more professional...

Adding a charger to my 100 amp panel

My opinion still stands that a load shedder or 200 amp upgrade is the smartest route. Buying a 40,000 car and skimping out on the charging infrastructure in your own home is really not smart. Load shedders are made right here in Canada and are solidly built.

Adding a charger to my 100 amp panel

That would work. I wonder what they cost though shipped to Canada?

Adding a charger to my 100 amp panel

This dryer buddy doesnt look like its CSA approved so forget that option altogether. I dont see any approval listings at all actually. Your electrician adding a 32 amp charge rate to a 100 amp panel with 2 electric stoves, dryer and ac is bananas. A load calc would come in way over so...

[Ontario] ESA costs for inspecting EV Charger

Shouldn't you be asking the electrician that did the work instead? Im pretty sure the scope of work dictates the permit fee ie: one price for a straight forward job, another price for a charger circuit that involves a trench to a detached garage etc. Also did or does the electrician have to meet...

Saskatchewan: $150/Year Road Tax for EVs Effective October 1

Gouge gouge gouge! This is just the begining trust me. Ontario will probably triple this tax. Govenment is puting out their greasy feelers to see how the ev community reacts. If we take this without complaining, eventually more and more fees will be introduced. What a great way to get people to...

Any good examples of Tesla Wall Connector installed between garage doors?

Does anyone have a wall connector installed between 2 garage doors? My parents are buying a Model Y and I dont know if this is a viable option but it seems like a really good spot for installing one at parents place. It would make it really easy for them to charge the Tesla because they would...

Tesla engineers crapped the bed on the Gen 3 Wall Connector

You make no sense whatsoever bro. The manual says to install 6 gauge for maximum output. What if we dont need maximum output or worse, out electrical service cannot support maximum output? Ontario code doesnt require a minimum 8 gauge and I have no clue where you found that info. Level 2 EV...

Tesla engineers crapped the bed on the Gen 3 Wall Connector

Yeah you're just not getting my point. The gen 3 wall connector was designed to be installed with various wire gauges and breakers, its right in the user manual. The manual should only state that 6 gauge copper and a 60 amp breaker must be used. Not mislead owners into thinking that it can be...

Tesla engineers crapped the bed on the Gen 3 Wall Connector

Totally true in the case of a few feet. At 50+ feet though its an added and wasteful cost both on the pocket and the environment. Also most people around here have 100 amp services and would fail inspection if they install the unit to their 100 amp service which forces them to upgrade to 200 amps.
  30. T

Tesla engineers crapped the bed on the Gen 3 Wall Connector

But the unit was not designed to be installed solely on a 60 amp line. This is wasteful and the copper is better off left in the ground. The instructions state that it can be wired with a smaller breaker and gauge of wire based on the available service. The fact that it can be cranked up so...

Tesla engineers crapped the bed on the Gen 3 Wall Connector

In Ontario anyway... So apparently this new Tesla gen 3 charger MUST be installed with 6 awg wire and a 60 amp breaker. No longer can the Tesla wall connector be wired for the charge rate that is it set to. reason being.... it can be cranked up by simply using a smart phone.... This comes...

Tesla Gen 2 charger available still?

Does anyone know where I can get a brand new Tesla Gen 2 wall connector with a 24 foot cable? I dont see them on the Tesla website and when I contacted Tesla they told me they are no longer available on through through tesla.

    Model Y charge rate?

Cool thanks for that. I just wish Tesla had something on their website listing the different charging speeds for Model Y like they do the other models.
  34. T

    Model Y charge rate?

Model y is more power hungry than model 3. I doubt model y gets 71 kph at 48 amps. My guess is its closer to model X at 1km per amp but I cant find definite confirmation online.

2 Tesla wall connector load sharing

How does the load sharing network determine which car gets more amps?
  38. T

2 Tesla wall connector load sharing

Is there a calculation to determine how fast two vehicles will charge using load sharing on a 60 amp circuit? I'm trying to determine if load sharing on a 60 amp circuit sharing 48 amps of charge is better or equal to 2 dedicated 30 amp circuits at 24 amps of charge rate.

Tesla wall connector solid red light

We had our Tesla wall connector professionally installed back in July and this morning we noticed a solid red light on the unit. The manual says that a solid red light means Hardware failure. I think the unit needs to be replaced at least that's what the electrician said. Does anyone have...

Quick question charging while door open

Noticed that the charging km range gets cut in half at the same current when the door is open on a tesla model x. The car was charging at 32A and 32kpm with doors closed. As soon as a door is opened, the charge rate remains at 32A but the kph was 16. Is this normal?

A question about different charging rates

How many different battery sizes are there for model 3, model s and model X? Lets say we are going back as far as 2014. From what I understand there is a 75D, 90D and 100D. Is this correct? What are the corresponding max charging rates for them? 75D = 32Amps max? 90D = 48Amps max? 100D = 48...

    Canadian or Ontario referral codes?

I don't understand why people still choose to go with 14-50. Go with a 6-50 configuration instead. I went 6-50 and can plug in my 240V welder and garage heater into a 6-50. If you lived in the southern US states where RV parts are everywhere, 14-50 probably makes more sense. All 14-50 is good...

MOdel 3 versions are so confusing!

I wouldn't want to use the mobile connector for my daily charger, not a chance. I would always go with a wall charger that is hard wired. This happened to friends charger and it was professionally installed too. Was not Tesla brand but still an EV. Imgur

MOdel 3 versions are so confusing!

I get that Model S and Model X all have a max charge rate of 48 amps but it seems that Model 3 is available in a few different options or is just refereed in different models. I would like to get some clarification on the different models and which charge at 32 and 48 amps please. Model 3...

    Used model S charging

My colleague is thinking about buying an older used Tesla Model S with a 70D battery. Does the mobile charger that comes with this version (Gen 1 mobile connector) charge at 40 amps charge rate or is it 32 amps like gen 2?

    Which Nema connector to buy

I see all your points and they are well taken. I am going to go with the 6-50 as this plug is supposed to be for EV only anyway and not campers/stoves etc. If 14-50 is more common everywhere else, I will just shell out the $50 for the adapter and keep it in the car. But for my home charging, I...
