Before buying the car. I got the salesman to confirm its HW3. I have it in writing (email). If it turns out tu be HW2.5, do you think Tesla will do something to compenate me?

off topic slightly, but I was prescribed daily disposable soft multifocal contacts and for the past 10 years have given me essentially perfect vision, both near and far. They are a pure miracle IMO.

I’ve noticed much better lane keeping when a merge lane is in play. It still makes a move to center on the wider lane lines, but it is slight. Can’t wait till it sees new lanes sooner and merges over right where they start (signaling prior).

I'm pretty sure you're right and I'm wrong. Unfortunately, it's been called Camping Mode or Camper Mode in Remote S and other threads for so long, I was fooled.

Update: I called again and spoke to a more knowledgeable tech who told me I actually do have HW2.5. Of course there's no estimate on retrofit start date yet, but they recommended I call the local service center since they would have more up to date info. I know Elon said the retrofits would begin when the feature set diverged, and we are clearly standing at that precipice so I've got to assume we'll start seeing them in the next few weeks.

Attention HW2.X owners: I just got off the phone with my local service center (Boston) and they are now doing retrofits on S and X, estimated that they will start doing 3s near the end of winter. I was told to submit a service request for the retrofit and they will approve or deny. If denied (likely) they said just keep moving it out a week until approved.
S and X folks, sounds like you can try to schedule your retrofits now, at least in Boston. I'd be curious if anyone can get a similar result from another service center.

I did not, I just asked broadly about HW3 retrofit and got the broad answer back of "schedule your appointment, if we deny it try again for a week later". Granted its not optimal, but at least its a path forward in lieu of a public notice.

hmmm, went out to the car and now this morning my new in-car texting works. also recognizes some (not all) new vocal commands — but still can’t get the “Open glovebox” command to work. Maybe because unlike the 3, on the S there is a physical button?

see my latest post before this one - certain items now do indeed function such as voice texting and most commands. guess HW2.5 actually works just fine...
Noticed lane keeping become more stable. People complained about ping ponging on HW2.5 with 40.x, and while I didn’t feel it was excessive, 40.50 does feel more stable to me (less random wandering of the steering wheel, smoother lines through turns).
