FIRST SHIP TO EU IN Q3 DEPARTS

A concern at this time of year is that the GLOVIS SUN will be crossing the Caribbean at the height of the hurricane season. At the moment the route looks clear but the weather is something that I will also be keeping a close eye on.

What does this mean in practice? I suppose worst case it could cause the ship to sink, however that sounds unlikely. Will she have to slow down? Go to port and wait? Change course?

Yes. What's the chances of 19kts from Cristobal?

It's a bit early to tell, but certainly, it doesn't look like she'll have massively strong headwinds and sea state should be good - certainly up to 24th... Can't reliably check further ahead than that at the moment - I think the bigger factor for her speed will be dependant on what date they book a berth in Zeebrugge - i'll be keeping an eye on the weather forecast anyway - especially if I get a hidden VIN pop up :p

My n00b question says, what do they do at the panama canal? I mean, it stops for anything? Unload? Pay taxes? Stop and go? Drive through? (When your english sucks but you like Formule 1)

She will arrive at the anchorage on the pacific side and await a transit slot (or her booked slot if they have booked one) - pilot embarks, ship will then proceed through the canal and out the other side, pilot jumps off and then she's on her way to Europe.

She will route around it - although it's not likely to be a problem big at this time of year.

I think that even she would run out of fuel if she maintained 19 kts all the way!

Modern ships can easily outrun hurricanes. They are well forecasted and their probable track is reasonably accurate too. It would just mean routing around it, which adds miles and therefore time. The hurricane season runs from June until the end of November with the peak occurring in September.
This year the season started early with 6 named storms but no hurricanes so far - which is unusual.

Nope. And to make it even less transparent it's ordered through a leasing company. I do have a RN for what it's worth (nothing I think)

Need some confirmation from VEDA and Mr Miserable where we should be looking now???

All I can do is repost my message #4153 from just 2 weeks ago
If you are waiting for MODEL S or Model X

Although Model S and Model X are made in the same factory as the Model 3 their delivery journey to you is markedly different.
Both Model S and X are shipped partly assembled in containers (3 to a container).
They are moved by road from the factory to the Oakland Joint Intermodal Terminal where they are loaded on to a train.
The train then takes about 9 days to travel to Houston. (actually BNSF Pearland). They are then moved by road to the dock at Barbers Cut where they are then loaded on to a scheduled container ship that eventually arrives 15 days later in Rotterdam. There the containers are moved by road (or barge) to Tilburg in Holland. Your car is removed from the container and then joins a mini production line where it is reassembled. It is then moved to Zeebrugge and shipped to Southampton.
As can be seen, all this takes time.
Finding your car in this complex logistics chain is difficult but there is a man who can. @Vedaprime is the specialist in this area. You can find him here but he normally resides on Twitter.

Nothing has changed.
