2020 Shipping Movements

Hi,

Just had a weird one, saw my spec car on the inventory, and location as being London, so thought, OK I’ll call and change to that one and pick it up now.. Spoke to sales who said it’s on the same boat as mine and has an ETA of 17th Sept.

Each time I speak To the sales team I get a different answer, starting to not believe a word of it and thinking I just need to wait till they ask me to pick the car up!

Looking at the web service data, all the LR cars that suddenly appeared are either at the dock or freshly on the boat even if they say 'London'. There's no estimated vessel ETA and definitely no actual ETA which means the cars almost certainly haven't docked at Zeebrugge. I'm guessing these are unsold cars on the Glovis Clipper.

I've seen similar with MXes marked as "London". The JSON data seems to imply they may be a Tilburg for processing

I'm a little surprised that RCC ASIA

Just checking, but does this imply you do not expect any ships departing from SFO in September at all? Waiting for an M3 delivered to Zeebrugge in October, but in that case it would be closer to November?

I would be very surprised if any cars are delivered to Zeebrugge in October. Having said that maybe the last 2 or 3 days of October but nothing earlier. If you are getting delivery in October it will have been delivered to Zeebrugge in September. I am sure Tesla would like you take delivery a little earlier - in September.

Quick question for the experts, as I’m still not sure which ‘horse to back’. What’s a typical timescale between docking in Southampton & the car being available for collection in Leeds? Latest estimate I’ve been given is Sep 15th, which would look to be quite a delay for the Asia, but pretty tight for the Sigma.

I'm sure Tesla are attempting to smooth out the feast or famine delivery cycle that has sadly been a signature of Tesla in the last year - it is beneficial to nobody. Your car may well be on RCC ASIA but by spreading out deliveries over a period, Tesla can ensure your delivery is not rushed and so they are less likely to drop the ball. This is frustrating I'm sure however hopefully it is for the better....

It is the downside of tracking ship movements!

RCC ASIA is scheduled into Southampton on Friday

RCC ASIA Originally the RCC ASIA was due to arrive at Zeebrugge at 22:00 on Tuesday however looking at her AIS it now appears she is aiming to arrive much earlier - just after midnight on Tuesday morning. This could have a knock-on effect and bring forward her arrival into Southampton. At the moment she is due in on Friday morning - standby for that date to come left, a lot.

Even more frustrating is the car has tracking on it and they can see the exact location, would it hurt them to share that with the person buying the car? I’m sure that would save them a lot of phone calls...

Try to relax - not easy I know . Mine is on the same boat too. They must have loads of very eager people desperate for information on their model 3’s. The ship still has 1,000s of miles to do - I’m trying to stay as calm as possible - not easy, but hey, it’ll all be alright in 3 weeks or so

If you are waiting for MODEL S or Model X


Although Model S and Model X are made in the same factory as the Model 3 their delivery journey to you is markedly different.

Both Model S and X are shipped partly assembled in containers (3 to a container).

They are moved by road from the factory to the Oakland Joint Intermodal Terminal where they are then loaded on to a train.

The train then takes about 9 or 10 days to travel to Houston. (actually BNSF Pearland).

The containers are then moved by road to the dock at Barbers Cut where they are then loaded on to a scheduled container ship that eventually arrives 15 days later in Rotterdam. There the containers are moved by road (or barge) to Tilburg in Holland. Your car is removed from the container and then joins a mini production line where it is reassembled. It is then moved to Zeebrugge and shipped to Southampton.

As can be seen, all this takes time.
