wow - that's a big hit.
I always wonder how these fully glassed roofs fare in crash situations. One would think from such hit as yours the rear would be shattered, but appears intact.

I would say yes.. mine got hit on the drivers rear quarter panel and didnt look nothing like yours.. ended up frame damage repair would be several months and over 35K Glad you and your family are safe.. would love to see the video..
 
That's not the Service Centers call, the insurance company makes that decision.

A Tesla is totaled when damage reaches ~70% of value. Beyond that, there are rental cars and hidden damage.
Most important thing is family is okay.

Another factor for an Insurance Company is future liability. If they don't total it, and force you to fix it, then say in 6 months it catches fire or something, the Insurance Company could get sued because they forced you to fix an unsafe car rather than totaling it and hauling it to the junkyard. This is one reason Insurance Companies are quick to total BEV's.
