We’re all physically sore and mentally shaken but ok. My (24 yo) daughter got a nasty seatbelt burn and my wife got popped in the mouth with her ipad but it coulda been much much worse.

wow - that's a big hit.
I always wonder how these fully glassed roofs fare in crash situations. One would think from such hit as yours the rear would be shattered, but appears intact.

Did any of the airbags deploy?
I would check under and look (video record) for battery damage.
But more importantly, I would get the seat belt injury checked out for other underlying damage.

I would say yes.. mine got hit on the drivers rear quarter panel and didnt look nothing like yours.. ended up frame damage repair would be several months and over 35K Glad you and your family are safe.. would love to see the video..

Geez - what hit you - a pickup? The Y is fairly high in the back and the strike zone is large. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t a total loss. Curious about the details leading up to the crash.

That's not the Service Centers call, the insurance company makes that decision.

A Tesla is totaled when damage reaches ~70% of value. Beyond that, there are rental cars and hidden damage.

As to understand the MY defense abilities, what hit you and how fast was it going? Were you stationary?

A Tesla is totaled when damage reaches ~70% of value. Beyond that, there are rental cars and hidden damage.

Most important thing is family is okay.

Another factor for an Insurance Company is future liability. If they don't total it, and force you to fix it, then say in 6 months it catches fire or something, the Insurance Company could get sued because they forced you to fix an unsafe car rather than totaling it and hauling it to the junkyard. This is one reason Insurance Companies are quick to total BEV's.

Exactly. A pickup. Traffic stopped suddenly, we escaped between some Jersey barriers and stopped safely. Then got hit when someone did the same thing.

Did you get dashcam recordings? A truck, sitting up high would easily have seen traffic stopped. Not paying attention for sure.
