I need your guys opinion, reserved April 2017 (yes 2017 and not 2016). Ordered Dual motor on 7/9/18. lets just say I might have alot more money coming my way but wont know for sure until end of August. I'd like to use some of that extra cash to get the performance model. I suspect I'll know either way by end of August if I got the extra cash or not. do you guys think I won't be assigned a VIN by then for the dual motor? my estimated date is between September and November
I would guess you’re near the end of the Sep-Nov range due to your relatively late reservation and very late order date, but with Tesla you never know.

Wait and hope that your edit design link doesn't disappear before you find out if you can afford to upgrade to P.

You could also call Tesla and ask them to push you back until early September if you need more time.

Given that 10000 AWD were just registered I gather most all of us reservation holders will be getting VINs within a couple weeks.

I do wish I had a better grip on the number of AWD orders placed by early reservation holders. I reserved in Feb of this year, but configured on 06/27. The earnings call said that 50% of the orders were AWD; but I can't really get better than a 3 month window for timing without a more accurate multiplicand.

This is what a customer service rep told me on Friday. Yes, I was using “ordering” and “configuring” synonymously. This is in contrast to “reserving.”

They aren't quite synonyms though. In situations like yours, where you had to configure after ordering to get the white interior in a non-P, they are somewhat different at it matters somewhat.

I think tomorrow marks 6 weeks since ordering for a lot of us.

I got the "48 hours" message on July 20th, IIRC. I had a minor correction to the co-registrant's birthdate. I got the "delivery experience specialist is reviewing your changes" on July 27th but haven't heard from anyone yet.

I'm glad to know they will be contacting me prior to delivery. it might be awkward if they waited until after delivery to contact me. ;)

I see your point. I guess I meant 4-6 weeks after I plunked down the $2.5K and made my configuration-in-chief. I was told that my update to white interior would not affect my delivery date (hoping that's true!) The rep and I calculated together that my 6 week date is this coming Thursday (6 weeks from my first configuration).

I had no reservation and not a previous owner and put down my $2500 last week on a AWD non performance. They people at the showroom said I would have no problem getting the car delivered prior to the end if the year. My estimated delivery is Oct-Dec. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on if they think I would get it delivered in time for the full tax credit. Also I am new to the forums and reading about VIN #’s assigned , the edit button going away etc. I was wondering if someone might give me an idea of what each thing means and how far along your are In the process when each of those items happen. Thanks.

Edit button does not mean a lot. Mine went away immediately while others have had it go away closer to vin assignment.
You will get the car before year end no doubt. Tesla wants to count as many AWD deliveries as they can in order to show a profit.
Congrats on your order. That's what I ordered as well.

Yeah if someone could confirm that you can add EAP and/or FSD at delivery, for $5k or $3k respectively, that would be great to know.

And I wonder, if you do that, is it part of the price of the car? or something you pay for separately so is not listed on the MVPA?

Also, if you do make that last minute change at the time of delivery, are they going to update the rest of your pricing to reflect the higher prices for AWD, paint, and delivery?

I can confirm that I have seen somebody add EAP at the time of delivery in freemont. It did delay their delivery by about an hour and a half. I’m not sure if they were able to change the financing or paid with a credit card. However, they paid it was settled that day and they were still able to complete their delivery. That being said, your delivery advisor can add it without re-pricing your entire build. The EAP and FSD are big margin items and the cost is already sunk from Tesla’s perspective. So they wouldn’t make you reprice the build to add those options, as to not deincentivize people to add these profitable EAP and FSD options. I’d also like to add that I can’t imagine anyone buying a tesla without at least getting EAP.

The ability to log into the mobile app has come and gone for folks pre-delivery. For the first time today, I was able to log on, see the videos, and see the loot (that my friends but I don't get o_O ). I'm not sure if this means anything anymore or if I'm making progress...

I just checked to see if I was able to login the app and it worked! It's the model 3 overview page. Before it kept saying I had no products on my account

I am now also able to access the app for the first time. Hoping it means something, but realistically it probably just means that they updated their server to allow access to people with orders.

My previous attempts to use the app gave me the no product defined message; I couldn't log in. Today I was able to log-in, it displayed my pending vehicle, videos and loot box. But nothing has changed on my order / account. :( So I just think this is just an update to the mobile app back-end. But now I have something else to check a few times a day! ;)
