If your paying an electrician. Just keep the invoice for liability. From an insurance perspective nothing negligent about hiring an electrician to install a 240v run to your panel. I would think that most people would NOT get a permit for something as simple as that. Technically your supposed to pull a permit if you change out your hot water heater....

I have installed plenty of 15 amp residential stuff with no permit pulled. For 240V bigger stuff, plenty of people with 100 amp service have had problems that might have been mitigated if they had done the proper load calcs, etc., and realize they needed a bigger service.

In my case I would not have gotten a permit if it had just been the charger off my main panel, but I was using a sub-panel that will eventually be used if we ever finish our basement.... better to "do it right" so that when I eventually get someone to finish my basement they don't whine about my having a sub-panel installed that never had a permit pulled on it (and charge me extra $$ to "rectify" the situation).

These stories are spooking me, I take delivery of my red AWD with 19's on Friday in Bellevue. I might have to swing by the lot to see if it's there. My rep was based out of NV, and she assured me she always plans for a few days in case of issues, but that it was already en route back over a week ago...

Took delivery at Bellevue, NE 20th location Monday. They don't have much extra parking at this location, so I was told they generally don't have the cars shipped in until the day before, which was the case for my car. I recall some saying they stage the cars in Tacoma, but don't remember the source.

My Red MC had "dust nibs" on the bumper and hood. Tesla is repairing the two dust nibs on top of the bumper, as they would be very noticeable with my PPF over them, and couldn't be buffed out.

On the plus side, they gave me plenty of time to inspect the car, and allowed me to sign and pay after inspection, rather than before. Just ask. Take a flashlight to inspect the finish and interior as the delivery area isn't lighted well enough to see everything.

Overall the delivery process was very well coordinated and efficient. If you have issues, they have a "QC" specialist document and take pictures of any issues you identify for correction...no push back, very accommodating.

Good luck and you'll love the car.

P.S. I had John, of Metropolitan Detail join me at inspection (complementary for pending customers). He measured paint thickness, and thoroughly inspected finish. Although he identified over a dozen small finish defects, he indicated:
"we are looking at your car under scrutiny and most of these items would be deemed acceptable and normal for all car manufacturers."

Fair enough.

This is what happens when nearly 60 days go by from time of finalizing order and still no ETA from Tesla on a VIN or delivery date.
Do you have a delivery window on the website? Mine is September 18th - December 18th. Had to call Tesla yesterday about a financing question and they verified that I was on track for a mid to late October delivery...right in the middle of my window. I think that would be a good estimate. I don't have a VIN yet either.

Honestly, I’m not 100% confident that they actually know the order of reservations in their system. Years ago in this process my reservation date randomly changed to 4/3/16 on my account. I mentioned it on the Model 3 FB group and an employee saw my comment and got it fixed to 3/31/16. I have seen many others comment that their reservation date wasn’t correct. I almost wonder if a reservation was a random number because they truly are random. Even if not, how would they have put me back to my exact place in line? There were >200,000 people who reserved that day...hope I’m not at the back of that now. Even day 2 reservations shouldn’t get a car until November at current production rates if we assume 50% of those day 1 people have orders placed. We are all so conditioned to line waiting we are assuming the process works like line. I’m gonna have to find a magic 8 ball for a better forecast. Believe it or not, I predicted back in Feb 2016 that I would get the car in September 2018, so I leased an I3 for 30 months. I hope you’re right, cause that ended last week.
And I thought that as well until someone on here pointed out the reservation system is comprised of multiple segments, RWD, US, EU, Asia Pacific. If US and non US are 50/50 420,000 reservations are now 210,000; LR vs SR 105,000; RWD vs AWD, 52,500. At 6,000/wk that's 8-9 wks. Tesla's guidance is, of the 3 month window they give people, they are hitting delivery in month 2... 8-9 weeks!

That is what Tesla's guidance is, 1 - 3 months and they are hitting delivery in month 2!

If you don't have a VIN then any dates they are giving you they are pulling out of their asses. I honestly think the people who answer the phone just make stuff up to get people to not call back for at least a few weeks.

I switched my payment method last night to cash since I now have an unsecured loan for the portion of the purchase I will finance. I completed the last few questions and now my order page shows "prepare for delivery"... but I still have no VIN assigned and since I don't see any other people with my exact config reporting they are getting a VIN I expect I won't see anything happen until Tesla batches out a bunch of cars in that color/wheel combo.

That could happen this week, next week or the week after that. I would say that if I don't get delivery by the end of September I will be surprised, they really seem to be cranking out the cars now.

So weird that this particular combination is delayed. Seen a number of AWD or blue or white interior or 19 but none with all of the above. Doesn't make sense to me why only the AWD/blue/white combo is getting delayed due to 19s
Not really, they tool the line for a certain set of easily changeable combinations, there was a time when everyone panicked about Aero shortages, it was because they were doing a run of 19's - once they swapped back the flow picked back up. It's about keeping the line moving efficiently overall.

Thanks, making me feel a little better now, I plan to still swing by today and verify all seems ok before D-day tomorrow (Delivery Day)

I've been waiting for 2 1/2 years. Worst case scenario, 2 more months? I'm fine with that. The Tesla people I have talked to have given me no reason to think they are pulling anything out of any orifice. They have been honest, pleasant and helpful. Sorry if your experience has been different.

How much is a permit where you live? I can't believe some of these prices. 550 bucks! My county charged $80. My total cost including the permit was under $300, and I needed 50 ft of 6/3 Romex, which was the bulk of the materials cost.

I live in Northern Virginia, near one of the top Tesla stores in the country and where prices are just below that of NYC and SF. I'm NOT expecting to get it dirt cheap here, but I do want to understand the pros/cons of the permit given my choices.

Isn't this the AWD delivery thread?

Yes it is, but we've all sort of formed a sort of kindred bond while we wait. So while we wait (and wait), we also talk about the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees.

I tend to agree with voip-ninja. I have been informed that there is absolutely no way for anyone in customer service to know when you might receive your car until it is matched with a car post-production. The system that does the matching is not, as I understand it, capable of estimating when your car will be matched. I believe the Tesla people with whom you spoke looked at your account and determined that there are no problems. Based on that information, it seems they determined that you should be matched with a car in next month or so. Given the estimated rate of production, that is probably a safe bet for them.

But I don't think the people with whom you spoke had any special information about your specific production timeline.

Did I look up the wrong person? I thought you were from Cleveland. Very early on I did take my young wife to Marietta, we lived in Reston VA at the time, so straight out 50 to Parkesburg then up 77 to Marietta. Showed her the Indian Mound Cemetery. Walked around campus. 18 yrs olds are SO young (22 yr olds arent far behind)!!! I am pleasantly surprised we survived it.

Yeah, always a Mountaineer here. Might have me confused with someone else. :) My wife and I were married at 22 and just celebrated our 25th anniversary this past Valentine's Day so you probably have me by a few years, but I hear you!

You can pull your own permit (it’s like $200 here) with the city or county planning department (depending on if you live in city limits or unincorporated part of county) then after the work is done you schedule an inspection. They come out inspect the work and issue the permit.

The main benefit of a permit is that the “upgrade” can be included in your home value if an appraisal is ever done and it will be documented in your homes records. It would also further ensure that the work and load calculations have been copleted properly and in accordance with your local building codes.

That being said, a licensed electrician should, in theory, do the load calculations and complete the install according to code regardless of wheather a permit is being pulled. So theoretically the work should be of the same standards.

If you are at all worried about it then you could just pull the permit yourself, (Not really that hard to do) sleep better at night, and save a ton of money vs what the contractor wants to charge for him to get the permit.
