    Supercharger - Weston, WV

I saw that the Weston Sheetz had reopened, but nothing in the article about the Superchargers. I presume they are also back online if someone in the area can confirm. It would be nice to know whether it was upgraded to V3 or not. According to the article, other Sheetz locations in the area will...

What is the most reliable android phone with Tesla Model 3?

Update... Pixel 2XL had been flawless before (wife inherited it to retire her OG Pixel) and Pixel 4XL has been flawless since I started using it in December.

What is the closest Supercharger to your house?

4.9 miles and 14.7 miles are the two closest (and I live in West Virginia!), but of course I never use them. Rooftop solar installation and garage means I charge at home as much as I can. For various reasons that I won't get into here, I make more power than I can use for the all electric house...

Solar Panel and Powerwall Near Boston

Yes, my installation is about 2.5 years old. The Panasonic panels are a bit more expensive, but they have the warranty and other desirable features that made it worth it for me. But, the equipment won't matter if you don't have a good installer, so make sure you do your homework with the...

Solar Panel and Powerwall Near Boston

I believe MA has net metering. Skip the Powerwall for now and just get the credit on your bill for excess solar you can use at any time. The grid becomes your "battery" storing the value of the energy you produce. Not sure about time of use charges, etc. Unless you wanted the Powerwall for...

    Tesla and Gallium Nitride (GaN)

I've been seeing more articles about Gallium Nitride (GaN) chargers and how much more efficient and smaller they are compared with traditional silicon based charging tech. Here is an example: This new HyperJuice 100W GaN charger could be the charger of your dreams I've been thinking about...

Winter charging issues, frozen charge ports, road trips

ABRP predicts 15% at 30 degree and no wind, but those were variable during the trip. I didn't use the car's nav since it was a common trip for me and I wasn't actually charging in Martinsburg, just stopped to get the photo and then another 10 mins to home.

Hot floor after driving high speed

My original post was in 2018 soon after I got the car. Since then I know it's just that the auto setting seems to direct more heat to the floor than I prefer and I need to adjust it. Or maybe Tesla has adjusted in an OTA since my feet haven't felt quite as toasty. :)

Does dual motor make a big difference in terms of power, enjoyment, etc?

Having driven an S as a Turo rental and a loaner, I wouldn't trade my 3 for one. I don't generally prefer large vehicles though. I guess it could be better as a long distance tourer, but that's not my general use. I picked the DM 3 for all weather capability in WV, better resale (IMO), and...

    offgrid house and M3

It's not just areas like southern CA or Australia, I'm in extreme eastern West Virginia and generate enough power from my array to offset the power for local driving in a Model 3 and Leaf and for an all electric house. I am not off grid, but we do have full net metering so that makes it easier...

Does anyone else still prefer to drive their gas cars?

Very cool! I had an '08 451 ICE smart for 6 years and really enjoyed it. But, I'm happy to power the house and a couple EVs with solar now. Still have a leased ICE SUV for the time being. You're always welcome to hang out here in my book. Besides, you'll join Team Tesla at some point. We're...

Leave J1772 adapter attached and locked, ready to charge

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Maybe in cities and suburbs, but I don't see that happening for a long while in rural areas. Independence and self reliance, work vehicles, not to mention poor roads/markings/signage and weather issues will make it a much longer slog outside metro areas.

Any chance "dumb" cruise control will come back as an option?

Off camber rises and dips, especially in curves, with oncoming traffic can get it confused. If someone is walking beside the road, it can also brake check the guy behind. If the road is relatively flat and straight or with gentle curves and wide enough so there aren't people and other objects...

Anyone that does even a little bit of DIY electrical work needs a non contact voltage detection pen. I use mine to double check everything even when I know the breaker is off. Can be especially useful on multigang boxes that may have another circuit hiding in there. :)

Interesting read from the Euro motorsports perspective on VW's recent announcement and what the new emission fines will mean. President of GM taught us what it takes for EV to go mainstream

I agree with your statement since it applies to me, but to be fair, there are a chunk of folks without garage parking or it's a communal garage without charging or very low speed charging. So, the better the charging options, the more people will be interested in EVs. I think we're at the...

Home charging on a 35A circuit...

It's possible since the slider wasn't very precise in previous app versions even though I was aiming at the 90% mark. Could have been 91% I suppose. But warning you at 91% and not 90% doesn't give me warm fuzzies and the car can sit without driving for days at times, so I err on lower is better...

Home charging on a 35A circuit...

Uh, my car warned me specifically about charging to 90% after a couple times, so at least my LR Model 3 built in Sep 2018 did in fact display a warning not too long ago. Maybe it has changed, but there you have it. I believe what the car displayed on its screen more than someone on the internet...

Home charging on a 35A circuit...

Well, for battery health, you don't want the battery sitting at a high level of charge. The car will warn you if you charge at 90% or greater repeatedly. I set mine at 80% and only increase if needed on a trip. Regarding the speed of charge, I don't know that I'd be concerned. A Model 3...

Home charging on a 35A circuit...

If everything (receptacle, wiring, breaker) is rated for at least 30A and you'll only be drawing a 24A continuous load, you should be good as long as it is wired up properly. 35A is odd. Wiring support more by chance? If it did and you had capacity, you could bump up the breaker and receptacle...

Not if the total number of EVs being sold increases by more than Tesla's production increase. They are expecting some better selling EVs to arrive and increase the size of the "EV" market. Elon confirmed addressing my biggest Tesla software deficiency: Tight Parking/360 view

    Dumb Winter Range Question

Sounds prudent until you're more comfortable with how it performs in those conditions. Don't want to push your luck and have a bad experience right out of the gate especially with family on board. Even if you were confident you could make it, there is not a lot of wiggle room in case of road...

    Dumb Winter Range Question

    Reconsidering getting a 2nd EV

It may not gain charge in really cold conditions, but you won't lose as much charge as you would have otherwise for battery heating and vampire drain. And to the point about 300 plus rated miles above, I seriously doubt there is any Tesla or other EV currently available that can achieve...

Winter charging issues, frozen charge ports, road trips

Nope. Was wearing a heavy sweatshirt over my regular shirt and jeans. I typically run a little warm, so I don't mind it being on the cool side.
