Definite Guide: Find out if you have HW3.0 or HW2.5

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
The easiest way to know wether you have HW3.0 or 2.5 is NOT via chat, but by opening the hardware cover behind the glove compartment.
Then you check the first digits of the serial number and they have to match the parts catalog posted on reddit

HW3 FSD Computer now available in the Parts Catalog for Model S and X : teslamotors

i1Tesla shows you how to di it, no screwdriver needed, just pull at 2:28

For Europe there are different parts

1483112-S1-C: ASM,CAR.COMP,HW2.5,EU,M3 - PROVISIONED
- 1462554-S1-H: TLA,CAR.COMP,EU,HW3.0,M3 - PROVISIONED

1483112 is HW2.5 the letters/numbers after dash change

So, what do you have? Please also include build model, build date and delivery date.

Not sure how the s/x part numbers listed above can help 3 owners determine what version is installed but this is a picture of mine.

4/19 build, delivered 5/17/19.

It's in the Model 3 parts catalog too. https://epc.teslamotors.com/#/systemGroups/47362.

I have a 3 with build date of 5/19 and my part number is 1462554-00-G. I'm assuming that it's HW3 even though the 00-G is different than what the parts catalog says.

Edit: to clarify, I don't have an exact build date. Just what the door jam sticker says. I took delivery on May 29th. LR/AWD/FSD. Still waiting to get a software update though! Stuck on 2019.7.107 with good wifi at home.

That is funny. You are the first person reporting a G behind an otherwise HW3.0 serial number. When was the CPU build, 02/2019?

Actually, where did it say everything? Yes, the announcement at Autonomy Day said Model 3 production switched to the new hardware; but it didn't say they completely phased out the old hardware, either.

Are you sure about that?

Today, the company clarified that it was in all new Model S and Model X since March (start around March 20th) and in all new Model 3 vehicles earlier this month (starting around April 12th)

Sure seems to say all.

Which obviously isn't actually true.

I don't take Electrek as my guide for anything... so I just pulled up the actual Autonomy day video and Elon's actual words are "All Teslas being produced right now have this version" That was likely true in April when he said it.... but if they ran short in May or June of HW3 units - I can see them walking back from that a bit. Which would be worse? Halting production, or using HW2.5 units and upgrading the ones that buy FSD later? If I were managing the production floor, that's sure what I would do.

Granted, that's stretching things a bit when it comes to "All being produced"... but it was true when it was said. The fact that it may have drifted later be damned ...
