Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

Took delivery of MYLR MSM/BLK/19 today from Seattle SC.
Car came with Front Mud Flaps and PPF for Mini Rocker Area. :D

The process was smooth. Inspected the car before payment & agreements.
SC team were very accommodating (atleast for me)
Found 2 panel-gap/trim issues(not major), SA raised the service request from their end.

Getting used to one-pedal drive.
Hope y'all get yours as early as possible.

This gives me hope that I will get a VIN soon. Followed closely with a delivery.

VIN assigned, can I hold off on payment and insurance till delivery date?

Also can I pay by check? Feels weird to transfer money over without even seeing the car.
Hi from the UK.
I paid by bank transfer two days before collection. I did this in small increments to start with so I could see the balance appear in my Tesla account.
Then when attending the collection I saw the car and had full access (it was unlocked) so I could inspect as far as possible. Obviously there some aspects I was unable to test but by then I was happy.
if the car had been a lemon I would have declined it and sought a refund.
I am cautious but was happy and felt safe during the whole process.

This does not look like it has been updated as it still includes the Model 3 RWD which has a battery manufactured in China.

This article wss updated on 3/29. No mention of battery requirements. Nothing about any update coming on 3/31.

Tesla also changed the wording in the model 3 rebate notes. Nothing about end of March.

If thay plan to update the requirements today, why update only two days ago?

No update for me at the moment, but my brother-in-law's previous EDD update for the MYLR/red/20" he ordered on January 15th was the last days of March...until the 25th when it extended to the first of April to the first of June. He's getting discouraged and his husband is getting frustrated. They have started looking for other EVs including the Mach E. I encouraged them to wait because I've seen that a long last-minute extension sometimes means a VIN is coming soon (that might just be statistical noise and false hope, though).

Well I hope it works out for them but I've had the exact same issue and my EDD has not yet changed. It sucks that Tesla even shows the EDD because it is completely unreliable and in the absence of any other regular updates from Tesla it's what we tend to fixate on.

I've now set my expectations toward taking delivery in June and have stopped obsessing (sort of).. Our EDD has shifted both later and and earlier occasionally so yeah anything is possible. I just wouldn't count on it.

I think demand has been insane since they dropped their prices in January and with factory retooling for the next iterations of their vehicles/processes has probably messed fulfillment up big time.

Unfortunately other EV manufacturers are in a worse state - if you can manage to actually find a vehicle that isn't delayed by 6+ months, the markup (on top of rising prices) is probably going to be ridiculous. On the plus side you'll probably get regular updates during your wait for delivery.

The useless EDDs are frustrating, but the uncertainty about the tax credit is perhaps a bigger issue to me. Like many of us, I really hope the feds finally issue guidance today as they said they would last week - my anxiety will decrease by an order of magnitude whether the vehicle no longer qualifies and I cancel or whether it will continue to qualify and I'll continue to wait. I don't mind waiting because it gives my emergency find time to recover from this purchase. :)

I forgot to mention the markups, but I did warn them that the wait might be even longer if they changed course, so they might as well sit tight.

I hope so, but my sig line seems to indicate (sadly) differently....

Granted, you're a lot closer to a factory

So yesterday was pick up day. About as quick and easy as you could hope for. We had signed all the paperwork electronically and I had paid for the car via a wire transfer earlier in the morning. When we arrived at the pick up location we just went in side, were greeted by an SC, gave them my name and then the SC walked us outside to our car. I gave the car a quick look over then accepted delivery. The SC then helped us pair our phones with the car as keys and then the SC left us to get familiar with the car and said if we had any questions to come back in and ask. We did have a couple of questions and went inside and ended up being helped by one of the Delivery people who we had talked to back on Superbowl Sunday when we test drove a car and put our order in.

The Delivery guy said he was on his 9th day of 12 hour days during this end of quarter push. He said we came at a very unusual time since they had very few people picking up at that time, so things were more chill and relaxed, and that they even had a single 30 minute delivery spot that went unscheduled, something that never happens during an end of quarter push. The delivery guy said that at the end of quarter the locations closer to the factories get hammered with deliveries and that once the new quarter starts their location will see a drop in deliveries while those locations farther away from the factories, like the upper north east and west, will see a pick up in deliveries. I guess the message for people in the north east and west i s have hope now that the new quarter is starting. The delivery guy even said to come back and visit and hang out during the early part of a new quarter since that is when their location is the least busy.

The delivery guy also showed us his new Model 3 which he was going to take delivery of today. I haven't found any flaws in the car when we picked it up. Did have one issue on the drive home since 3 of the 4 screws holding the Temp license plate on fell out and I lost the Temp plate. I need to find out how to get that situation taken care of.

Looks like we know the "cutoff date" now. From the release:

"The publication of these proposed regulations in the Federal Register is the issuance of the proposed guidance described in section 30D(e)(3)(B) (as added by section 13401(e) of the IRA). Pursuant to section 13401(a), (e), and (k)(3) of the IRA, the critical minerals and battery components requirements of section 13401(a) and (e) of the IRA amend section 30D with respect to vehicles placed in service after the date on which these proposed regulations are published in the Federal Register. Accordingly, the Critical Minerals and Battery Components Requirements apply to vehicles placed in service after April 17, 2023, the date of publication in the Federal Register.

The big question now: what vehicles will continue to qualify (and for how much) beginning on 4/18???

This means for M3 SR time till April 17? But all other still qualify after that? Mainly MYLR 5 seater which is my order

I'm not sure that makes any difference here in Texas since the vehicles must be shipped out of state, purchased, then shipped back, so the time and distance from factory to customer might not be much, if any, shorter and might actually be longer.

So, the only thing new we know is that the full $7,500 will now end no sooner than April 17 instead of March 1 or March 31. Beyond that, we still don't know whether or not the Model Y will qualify for $7,500, $3,750, or $0, so nothing has changed in that regard.

Now, more than ever, I wished that Tesla's EDDs were accurate since mine is currently April 2-16.

Good god - what a clusterphuk. Where's my Valium?!?! :D

I guess now the end-of-quarter push will now extend to April 17. I bet there are a lot of exhausted employees at Tesla. ;)

That doesn't really tell us anything that we couldn't tell from the new April 18th date. Basically it just extended the anxiety of knowing if the tax credit will apply full, 1/2 or none for the Model Y for another 1/2 month. Sure it allows an extra 17 days to possibly get the car delivered and not have to worry about it, but we all know how that goes.

Tesla needs to determine if their batteries will qualify or not. They should know exactly where and how much of each material the battery contains.

Would be great to have a definitive answer one way or the other.

I think Tesla will post them on April 18th or late April 17th after their order cutoff time.
