I'm not angry, I just don't see any value to the constant nit-picking that everyone in this thread is doing.

The criticism of Elon's unsavory article quote - that's legit, and warranted. But the picking apart of the possible $8 blue-check fee is ridiculous. Elon's not perfect, and he's made mistakes (Model 3 over-automation in construction), but that's how he learns. Elon learns a TON from his failures.

I'm happy to sit back and see how this unfolds. If I were a billionaire, I would have asked him how to invest, because more often than not, what Elon touches makes money. Lots of money.

If we all agreed this thread would not be entertaining and we’d all be $8 short ….. Elon is a funny dude and IMO is trolling people while he laughs his ass off in his Tesla Christmas Sweater. It’s hilarious to me….

Funny, trolling, and “laughing his ass off” are definitely key characteristics I am looking for in a CEO

You'd be wrong of course. I don't want Elon acting like an idiot regardless of my portfolio performance.
Elon will always be the idiot that he is. The same idiot that also happens to be a damn good entrepreneur and risk taker. Just comes with the territory. Did he overstep with his most recent transgression? Clearly Yes. Should he have apologized? IMO Yes.

In this case with Twitter he had no qualms about admitting that he overpaid for Twitter. The fact that he did not have to sell additional shares shows you that his investors trust him to make it something bigger.

What I don’t understand is why does free speech have to be free? In your own words he is “the richest man on earth is scrambling for dollars”. Why can’t you be a businessman and also care about free speech? Should he sell more TSLA? I mean the guy is looking for solutions and he is brainstorming and identifying ways to make it more profitable. Give him a few months at least ffs.

When did You Tube claim they were the “town square” and wanted everyone to have a voice….

But he is right, it’s a choice and like I said before, no one will leave Twitter and it will never go broke. Too many people love Elon and I’m almost positive those same people would like to find a way to make him a Presidential candidate…… sounds like another group of people 🤔

Our mission is to give everyone a voice and show them the world. We believe that everyone deserves to have a voice, and that the world is a better place when we listen, share and build community through our stories.

Sounds a lot more pretentious than free speech.

I'm also a former vlogger. While I didn't have to pay YouTube, they did censor some of my videos for 'wrongthink' because I didn't march in lockstep to any hivemind. That censorship comes in the form of demonetizing, and depopulating videos from recommendations.
Not to put too fine a point on it, sounds like you weren't censored, just de-emphasized. Anybody who wanted to see your stuff still could. And everybody who can't follow the terms of service cries "unfair!" so seems likely enough that was what was going on.

Sounds like you didn't like that people running a business could curate the content they allowed any way they liked. You're talking like some kind of woke socialist anti-capitalist. I suppose you took your business elsewhere, right?

Problem is when you only censor a certain viewpoint or line of thinking while favoring or promoting another as well as retroactively enforcing new directives that on old content.

YouTube is notorious for this.

The guy has owned the company for 6 days. That's a pretty week argument, he's appropriately getting feedback on changes. How fast did you expect the guy to move?

He's already moving at about 100X the speed of the prior management team. And for his troubles everyone appears to be some armchair quarterback that thinks they know better.

At 6 days, it is indeed a "week" argument. And it's all I have to go on - Elon's first big move is in the opposite direction from what makes sense to me. I'm sorry if saying that upsets you.

This is why Elon bought Twitter, to get rid of all that nonsense and create a level playing field. This doesn't mean it will be a Hellscape (Elon's word here), but it will no longer be overrun by the WokeMob™ or those who place identity politics over everything else.

Put another way, Twitter was a toxic dumpster fire. It will only get better under Elon, just like every other company he runs.
Well, good for you that you can see inside Elon's mind. But Elon can't make Twitter suddenly not be "overrun by the WokeMob™ or those who place identity politics over everything else" because that's strictly your imagination. Twitter management and moderation has offended pretty much everybody on all sides of everything. And that will no doubt continue, because everybody believes in their own righteousness, no matter how grotesque they actually are.

So yeah, show me some data about who was and is oppressed and silenced on Twitter, and maybe I'll listen. Your opinion about what's going on is worth exactly nothing.

Data or the claim is just BS. And seriously, you think that if a site decides it no longer allows explicit sex that it has to leave up all the old stuff that is explicitly sexual? Not applying the new rules to old content would be moronic (in most cases).

Apparently everyone is, based on your posts in this thread. What's that saying about if you think it's everyone else..? ;)
As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his cell phone rang.

Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, “Herman, I just heard on the news that there''s a car going the wrong way on Route 280. Please be careful!”

“It's not just one car,” said Herman, “It's hundreds of them!”

A bit of good news regarding Elon & Twitter (BTW, arstechnica generally has excellent content):

A quote from the article:
Free Press Co-CEO Jessica González said she attended the meeting with Musk. "I shared my concerns that hate, harassment, and conspiracy theories proliferate on the platform and underscored the disproportionate harm that unmoderated social-media spaces inflict on women and people of color. I asked him to retain and fully enforce election-integrity measures," González wrote.

González called the discussion "productive" and said Musk's post-meeting commitments are a "good first step."

Gonzalez also said:
"We'll be evaluating Musk closely and assessing whether he backs up his promises," she said, noting that "hate, abuse and conspiracy theories are rampant on Twitter."

Musk doesn't understand that AOC brings people (supporters and haters) to twitter and he should pay AOC.

Spotify pays Joe Rogan, not the other way.
Yep, the blue check is a service to people viewing the tweets not the tweeter. It's the people with millions of followers who get the clicks which get the ad views which bring in the money.
Not sure about Elon's strategy of making everyone equally upset. Seems like making everyone as happy as possible might be better for business. I'm not a billionaire though.
