Firmware 5.12

First odd behaviors here (been on 5.12 for 1 week); my wife called as the center console is blank, I'll do a reboot when she gets home (she prefers not to do it while she's driving).

I think I've only rebooted twice in almost two years, I wonder why Tesla is still installing buggy FW v5.12?

Just wait till you get the 'flashing' center console screen  as some people have reported!

Nigel, which version of 5.12 do you have? I had a couple of center screen lockups (not blank, but just frozen) on 1.64.26 and the service center mentioned that they thought .38 might be to address some of those issues because they had received other reports from users on 5.12.

I had a blank center screen this morning. Reboot fixed it. And I've been seeing similar weird behavior since I got 5.12. Last time was leaving Savannah about 2 weeks ago, I had no network until after multiple reboots. I'm on 1.64.26, I wonder if I should ask for .38.

On delivery day I must have been excited & didn't read the purchase contract closely where I agreed to pay a large sum of money in exchange to have my wife & kids become beta testers, be prepared for lots of reboots with 5.12 she is lucky she was able to drive, a number of times our car while parked has "crashed" & required a reboot in order to drive, car has been at the SC all week & engineering found a bug with something to do with Slacker, replaced my 12v but they haven't been able to figure out why the touchscreen\car was becoming non responsive.

Provide me a car & I would be happy to beta test but my wife shouldn't have to deal with this.

Fortunately I was home when my wife got the flashing screen,

Wow. For me it's usually necessary a couple of times a month. Most frequently it's because the 3G connectivity is gone, even though the screen shows bars and the little 3G icon. My maps, Slacker etc. just stop working. Re-boot fixes it. I've also had Bluetooth error messages that prompt me to contact Tesla service, but a re-boot fixes that too.

When I picked up my car last year the delivery specialist suggested I preemptively reboot the center screen once a week.

Ugh... I hate when people give advice like that. That might help you avoid running into problems, but it does nothing to help Tesla actually find bugs in the software and fix them. I'd much prefer to run into them and report the issue so it can get fixed. The only times I've had to reboot have been for a couple of lockups and a couple of times where 3G didn't appear to be working even though it showed 3G was available. The times that happened, I was in spotty 3G connectivity and I think the software has an issue after 3G goes away and comes back.

I'd much rather see people not reboot unless necessary and report the issue to Tesla whenever they have to reboot. With enough people reporting issues, they should be able to fix the problem.

Every time I have had a major touchscreen crash or when the car wasn't responding & it required a reboot I called HQ & reported, after each occurance I have been told engineers didn't find anything wrong in my logs...you would think something would show up that caused the system to crash, not talking about a small bug here.

Years ago I had a Balckbarry Touch smartphone, this thing was junk & needed to be rebooted every night, there was even an app that did a scheduled reboot, maybe Tesla should add this feature in version 6 instead of the ability to name your car.

Bad idea for slacker users since that wipes the search history.

My search history always disappears across reboots as well as new software updates (which obviously cause a reboot).

Well dang it, I'm going to have to pay more attention, but I sure didn't notice it gone if it did get wiped.

I kind of lose the history if the car is parked, say, while I'm away on vacation. It's not that it's "gone", but because it only goes so many days back, the history kind of rolls off the end of the calendar and the screen shows the last selection I listened to for all of the days back to when I parked it.
