Looks like the tone quickly changed to deafening silence (or was it broadcast and not available online?).

As I checked later in the day I didn't see any follow up spots by Phil LeBeau. I expect a positive piece on Tesla came as a surprise to upper management, followed by panicked calls downstairs to pull the plug on any follow up spots from GF1!

There was at least one brief follow-up with LeBeau standing in one place, but it was essentially a summary of his earlier report. It appeared to me that it must have been recorded shortly after his initial report and meant to appear live hours later.

You can't compare the two models because of the difference in seals: Fraser Horn on Twitter
Yeah looks like the M3 is better insulated. Though Tesla doesn't have the best track record for cold testing. They took around 3 iterations before the brakes on the Model S handled properly the slush and salt of Norwegian winters.
Maybe a winterpackage for the M3 as well then for the handles and doors? Though silicone for Canadian winters shouldn't be anything new.

Big news from Elon today about buying some trucking companies Twitter

Interesting to see what the FCF implications will be as a result of purchasing these car hauling companies. Elon stated on the last CC that the goal was to get the car into customers hands in under 10 days (currently around 30 days from order to delivery). Reiterating "did not fully appreciate the working capital impact until recently."

I wonder what the costs were associated with acquiring them and how quickly the acquisition will bear fruit. Integrating them into the delivery logistics network might take some time but i think it would have been more inefficient to scale it in a different manner. Either way it really seems that Elon is focused on delivery logistics and isn't pulling punches.

He also talks about roll on roll off fast ships going to EU and Asia. Implication being, that they don't want to have the same mess they had delivering them here.

Tesla Model 3 is starting to show some important flaws in cold weather
With the cold, several owners are reporting that the door handles are extremely hard to pop out and when they do, the window doesn’t always come down

Not sure how big an issue this is?
I'm pretty sure it's real. Tesla screwed up cold-wet-weather / freezing-rain testing on the Model S and had to do retrofits. Not surprised they failed freezing-rain testing again, though it's disappointing that they didn't learn from their mistake.

This sort of problem does happen on many cars in freezing rain, but Tesla seems to have managed to hit a sort of trifecta where the handles are hard to break out if frozen, so are the windows, and then the door won't open properly because of the frameless window; many cars have one or two of these problems rather than all three.

It's fixable with redesign; the door handles need to be heated (they're apparently too well insulated from the interior for the interior heating to work), the windows probably do too, and the windows need to be siliconed so they'll move. It might be fixable by *removing* insulation from the door, a relatively cheap fix in the factory and an expensive warranty fix.

How big an issue is it? The redesign is not going to be a super big issue. The fact that they didn't learn from their mistakes with Model S and *never tested Model 3 in freezing rain* is a sign of a bigger issue.

What Tesla’s ‘Delivery Logistics Hell’ Is Like for Model 3 Buyers

I think it is time to cancel my Times subscription.

All the 10000s cars delivered, they highlight the very small minority who had problems and create a click bait story from it.

It’s like a headline “Amazon package not delivered, should the SEC investigate?”

Why not focus on the real story: “Even during a huge and complicated scaling moment, thousands of amazing innovative cars get to thousands of happy customers”

Treading water until the new solar roof is ready.

Tesla should only be in businesses that can be differentiated. Long term Tesla should probably not be in the installation business at all. They should be selling solar roof tiles and home storage to installers. They are going to have the same inefficiencies installing solar roofs as they did with solar city.

Treading water until the new solar roof is ready.

"The company said three weeks ago that it now expects to increase production of the solar roof during the first half of next year. As recently as August, the company said solar roof production would accelerate later this year. Tesla blamed the complexity of the solar roof and the need to do intensive testing on the new product, for the latest delay."

Tesla offers glimpse inside Buffalo gigafactory

Third party installations revealed so far appear to be on existing structures with relatively simple, low-pitched shed-type roofs lacking many ridges or valleys. Our new home is in the framing stage; and, when I showed the TE specialist the architectural elevation views, we were told they weren't aware of when the tiles would be available but likely long after when the contractor would want to cover the decking.
