Once a week. New one yesterday I had not seen before. I backed out of the garage, and the homelink menu appeared. But the entire touchscreen was unresponsive. Reboot, and OK. My usual reason for reboot is lost wifi that won't reconnect. Second most common is map display freezes.
You can power-off the whole car.I had the same problem, then it went to 11... apparently the Tesla service has never encountered my problem before. I rebooted after it got stuck, then my bluetooth didnt work. I rebooted again, and the screen decided to go dark and stop working altogether. That was bad enough, but now my heat is continually running, along with the heated seats and steering wheel. Because of the snow storm, it may be 36 hours before anyone can diagnose my car in person... that can't be good for the car. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there a super-secret reset button? Am I screwed?
Then I guess you're up a well known creekwell, that would require the touch screen to be working- Touch Controls > E-Brake & Power Off > Power Off. Model S automatically powers back on again if you press the brake or touch anywhere on the touchscreen.
I have never done this. Is the fact I've never done this contributed to my problems? I came from a Linux background, so never got used to the Microsoft-Apple mentality of booting often. I only do if I have to. Obviously, ever since Microsoft devs and spies (NSA, NSSR & Nhina) have gotten their dirty hands into Linux, it has gone seriously downhill, but it never got as bad as Microsoft's constant crashes.I reboot automatically after every OTA upgrade.

This suggests too much legacy code rot in the Tesla software (possibly even kernel problems). They should do a top to bottom audit, including security, bloat, repetitive code that could be commonized and better debugged by more coders, rewriting anything that is badly written (regardless of who or why), anything else that comes up, bugs, inefficiencies, bad designs, inflexibilities, bad programming, compatibility errors, omissions to old API usage that used to work but was messed up in new changes, bugs that only manifest in new code path timings, bad logic, bad hardware failure resiliency and adaptability, etc. They need to do that anyway. Maybe they're "too busy on Model 3", still, but if that's their "excuse" now, they'll never "find time" to properly manage their software ever.Mine freezes about every 1000 miles. Only reboot helps. Never happened before the 8.0 update. Hopefully with the 8.1 it will go away.
