Alla Road? That’s just stupid. I had my delivery there, very rushed and weird. As you said, it happened on a Sunday. Now I learned :)

Thanks for all the responses!!

Yeah, that is stupid. Sounds like he was getting some buyer's remorse before he even took delivery... and had to find a way out without losing the deposit.

I know it’s a littlevremoved from your job, but want to ask

1) if you were aware of any owners denied warranty repairs for having aftermarket accessories like dashcams or trailer hitches?

2) my local service center avoids selling even the most basic parts (I’m not talking about restricted parts). Is there any central place I can call to order parts?

I agree. The depreciation hit on a 3-4 year old one would likely be much heavier for a bunch of reasons including that the original warranty will be gone or almost gone

Only the original battery/drive warranty remains in place which, in my case, will remain in effect until December 2022 or until the car reaches 100k miles.

While you are correct that the original warranty will be gone, in its place the vehicle will instead come with a new 4 year/50k mile warranty, ie one that will remain in effect until June 2022 or until the car hits 94,878 miles.

No. Some of them definitely wanted to be treated like royalty. And some of them aren’t even talking about painfully obvious defects but rather things that also happen on every other car in that price range. And when you don’t act like a dink, but rather as a reasonable person, Tesla will bend over backwards to make things right. Emphasis on reasonable, which escapes some people.

Oh, I'm sure there were people who acted like jerks; after all, there always are. But we've all seen more than enough horror stories here to understand that Tesla's simply not in the same delivery-quality-and-servive ballpark as its competitors.

There's a reason, you know, that Tesla is the sole company selling cars in the United States that doesn't allow states to release their new car registration information to JD Power, so they can't contact new Tesla owners to gather data for their Initial Quality Survey:

Tesla Snubs JD Power

The point is that Tesla needs to up their game. Considerably so, if they're going to stay competitive. Having invested close to a quarter-million dollars in two Model S cars myself, I hope they do, but I haven't really seen any sign they're doing so yet.

(It would be nice to have some empirical data on this. Dunno where to get any, though.)

That’s odd. I received other surveys about my new Tesla. They didn’t seem to have any problem finding out I purchased one.

Tesla does need to up their game but im willing to give them leeway seeing how the company is younger than me. All the other car manufacturers have been around for literally a hundred years and have had more time to perfect simple things.

JD power ratings are somewhat useless. Chevy has a lot of JD power awards but if you look closely at the criteria, you'll realize its all a gimmick.

"highest initial quality award" is basically oh look, none of the cars broke down within the first 90 days. And we all know GM/Chevy is not known for long term reliability. Its like they are built to last 90 days and then bust. haha.

But I digress...

I'm taking the red eye from CA and will arrive in ATL at 6 am to take delivery of a CPO P85D+ at the Decatur service center on Monday. I figure I'll go there right when they open at 8 am to see if I can talk them in to completing the delivery right when they open instead of waiting until my noon delivery appointment time. What breakfast goodies should I bring for the crew so as to increase my chances of success in doing so?

Ha-ha! Just tell them straight up so that they can properly prepare for a longer window of time. As shady as this sounds, money/gift cards are the best way to their hearts. They don’t get paid well, so anything to help people financially at tesla is always HUGELY appreciated.
I used to bring baked goods (rasperry tarts, layer cakes) from my wife's bakery for my DS.
To be fair, I kept bring long after I picked up my car, and even the service staff got in on the deal :)

When I went to pick up my car in Ohio, I found out that my DS grew up in Chicago. I brought him a frozen tub of Italian Beef - you cannot get that in Ohio! He loved it!

I have a 3 year old P85D, and my wife has a new 3LR. One problem I have with the 3 - and this is a question - is the charge port. One click on the connector handle, and the port on my S opens, with a range of at least 20 feet. On the 3, have to press and hold, wave it in circles, with a typical range of < 3 inches. Nashville SC says when they test it, the port behavior is normal. I have tried 3 different connectors, all with the same result. I no longer use it, I just press on the port itself.

Is the 3 supposed to have a very short range? Is there a way for my to check if the antennae for the charge port is actually connected? Or is there some pairing activity, or software update, that improves the range?

Here's my question:

How come nobody knows how to answer the following question at Tesla:

"If I buy a used car from a first owner, am I eligible for the ESA?"

What a laughable joke that was trying to get the right answer.

my endocrinologist didn't know how to treat a skin related condition I had. what a joke. I wouldn't expect many Tesla people (who sell new cars) to know the answer to questions regarding third party sales.

Are delivery specialists and other Tesla staff trained to not say “I don’t know”? It sure seems that way, with all the stuff they make up when they don’t know an answer to something, when a better answer would be “I don’t know but I’ll find out for you.”
That's what we were supposed to say... Not sure why people you've interacted with don't do that.

Sorry but I'm not going to be much help here. I know that any aftermarket addition technically voids warranties, but usually the SC's were pretty accommodating and reasonable.

With regards to parts, I don't think Tesla can sell parts out of their inventory. What kind of basic parts are you looking for? You can always ask for part numbers and search through other outlets.

MUFFINS!!

They'll also probably be accommodating depending if the delivery person who knows how to properly execute the paperwork is there. There is absolutely nothing worse than incorrectly signing somewhere and having to chase somebody down to get it fixed. The DMV and banks are SUPER strict on signatures and dates being absolutely perfect. It will also depend on if they can fit you in... That's why deliveries are scheduled in the first place. Coming unexpectedly early/late really throws things off for the whole day in a lot of cases.
