I have to admit..., I have had my plaid now for 1.5 months. None of the items and I mean none that are listed above have been evident. Now, with this said, I am sure that if folks have this, it is real. Are we looking too closely to find the issues? Who knows??? However, when I took delivery, I looked at it all and had a great sales guy (the manager of the Tesla store) who worked with me. It was about as perfect as I can ask for. Yeah, there were a few small things, i.e. the center console had a scratch in it and two minor "snake bite" type things in the molding below the screen. However, Tesla is replacing both for me, without question, and comfortably handling me as a customer. As for the other things above, I may be blessed but my Plaid is perfect. Let me give you an example. When I picked up my Tesla, I went immediately, .like 1.5 hours to the shop for paint correction (typical for any car), a protective film (3M), and then ceramic coating. It was brilliantly done. I wouldn't have bought the black unless this was available to me. My guy is as anal as I am, and said to me "I was looking closely and only saw minor, in fact very minor issues, no different than any other vehicle". He further said, "in fact, this was better than most other high-end vehicles that I work on". I was warned by a good friend of mine who had 3 Tesla's to "NOT GET BLACK". Well, I am a black car kind of guy, and I agonized over my decision but stuck to it. I dealt with the need to make it right and be happy. Now, I Currently have a beautiful wet look vehicle that shines in the sun, beads up well in the rain, and is just amazing. I am happy with my Tesla Plaid and expected so many other problems after reading blogs, and posts on social media. Folks, it is a machine and machines have issues. The "laundry list" above gives me such anxiety, and although good for checking at delivery, come on....."Give me a break", it doesn't imply that 100% will be on each vehicle, and besides, they are awesome in working with you if you treat them the way that you want to be treated. If you get some wised ass joker who thinks they can bullshit their way through to you on any issue, then move on and get somebody who treats you with dignity and class, as you want to treat them. They are the greatest innovative car manufacturer to come out of the USA since Henry Ford in my view who took folks off of bicycles and horses. I am not a "Tesla Head", and call it as I see it. This list is obscene and no different than the media in America, causes unnecessary anxiety. TESLA rocks and I am evidence of a car that if you take care of it, take care of the employees of Tesla who are there for you, especially in delivery, service, etc., you should have a great experience. Will something go wrong? Of course, but when it does I am not flushing the bowl called Tesla and smack slamming them. I will deal with it, no different than my iPhone (and it has gone wrong), my Macbook pro, my house, my job, or anything that one faces off with. Sorry to write such a long response, but do the above at delivery, but "Don't get drawn into the hole" thinking the tesla experience is horrible. It is totally fine in dealing with whatever comes your way. Just don't deal with wise asses who think they can film flam you, yet that is another issue...., entitlement and I don't deal with entitlement in anything too lightly. Good luck to all who have a tesla, taking delivery on a Tesla, patiently waiting for the horrific promise, no promise, ghosting experience. In the end, as Linking Park sang...."It doesn't really matter".....it is an awesome machine and I love it for the first time ownership!!! INNOVATION AT ITS FINEST!
Yeah, you got your car early in the very beginning of production. Per Elon, this is the best time to aim for high quality Tesla vehicles (as well as way past production ramp). The worst is when they’re rapidly trying to ramp production and rush things or miss issues while trying to accelerate production, i.e. now. Luckily certain parts are in short supply, so it might be forcing them enough to have better QC, but who really knows..

Remember from grade school, the paragraph break is your friend . . . .

I confirm, mine is one of the first post-black cone nose cars. (2016.5) Very well built.

Has anyone else noticed a rubbing sound from behind the yoke when it is turned about 180 degrees (when it is upside down)? I noticed this after the service center took apart the yoke to fix an airbag issue, and am trying to figure out if this was present before already, or if they caused it when they put everything back together. It only rubs when turning the yoke from side to side about 20 degrees in each direction when it is upside down. It is very subtle, but noticeable if music is off and AC fan is low. If someone could try this out and see if they notice it on their car too?

I have a small imperfection under the resin on the CF insert in my driver door. Appointment 9-20 to replace.

My rear passenger door is a little close to the body on the rear trailing edge. Appointment 9-20 to align.

My hood was a little too far forward, I loosened the hood bolts one side at a time, slid the hood back, and retightened. All good.

That’s it so far. Paint quality is excellent. Just as good as the Volvo XC90 parked next to it.

just got picked up today for Stealth ppf and tint.

So I took home delivery of my MSP, VIN 431xxxx, and noted a few quality issues (thanks for the awesome checklist!). No biggies, but stuff I'd like to have reviewed/fixed (faint yoke worm, missing privacy shelf, wrinkled weather seal, etc). I was told I have 24 hrs or 100 miles to do so but not told where to document the issues.

Just in the app under the "Schedule Service" menu?

car comes with a warranty I keep adding a tallied list for them to fix stuff. Day-to-day it works and functions for me but there are some ongoing issues and the local service center is so back logged getting in takes time coupled with the fact certain parts are on back order.

My first Tesla but might be my last I mean this is ridiculous. The Plaid performance is only thing keeping me going with it.

The 100 miles is to reject and return the vehicle. Any issues you have should still be covered by the new car warranty.

glad my delivery is not until Oct/Nov
As I'm hoping to take delivery of my Model S Plaid soon, I've trying to put together a consolidated list of all the issues folks have been finding at the time of delivery of their cars, so I can look out for such issues before accepting delivery of mine.

The goal would be to note all issues of concern to you, take photos of them, and decide whether you want to take delivery as is and deal with them at service centers, or raise them to delivery specialists and potentially refuse delivery.

I know there's already a refresh issues thread going, and I've been inspired by that one a lot, but this one is specifically for things to look out for at delivery, and it's also not a pros/cons or list of dislikes.

Note that this does NOT include software issues or missing features, which we hope will be fixed with OTA updates over time.

If you've already taken delivery and see anything missing, please add it by incrementing the list with a numbered item.

Hoping this list will help others who are also about to take a delivery. Enjoy!

  1. Paint scratches/dents/peeling/swirl marks
  2. Paint bubbles/foreign objects under paint
  3. Adhesive residue on paint, lights, glass, or exterior trim
  4. Panel gaps: door, trunk lid, or frunk misalignment
  5. Trunk liner not secure/popped up
  6. Clear coat sag on leading edges
  7. Rubber seal hanging down behind front grill

Thanks for compiling this list. I've ordered MSLR, Red, Black, 19" in May 2021, my delivery date changed many times from Sep-Oct to Sep, then to August, Nov, Dec and today Feb. But I am horrified to see the long inspection list, why we need to worry about inspecting a car with a price tag $100K+

The 100 miles is to reject and return the vehicle. Any issues you have should still be covered by the new car warranty.
Warranty yes, but the first 24 hours/100 miles are for issues that are caused by the factory that could have been also caused by the new owner.

For example, Tesla could claim that scratches on paint or under the bumper could have be caused by the driver after taking delivery, so if you find such issues you need to take photos as soon as possible and create a service appointment within 24 hours, to prove that the car was delivered that way.

In my case, I have a long and deep scratch on the roof glass, and if I hadn't submitted a service appointment with clear photos of the scratch on the day of delivery, they could have claimed it happened while I was driving or parking my car in the garage etc.

Other issues such as defective door seals or misaligned panels, sure - those can be handled at any time during the 4-year/50,000-mile warranty, as Tesla can't claim those are caused by misuse of the vehicle by the owner or accident-related.

Is there a list of accessories we should leave the delivery with, e.g. 2 key cards, 2 key fobs, floor mats, trunk mat, privacy shelf? Things that, if missing, may not be obvious to a new Tesla owner?

Thanks for the list - GREAT help!
