My guess is they are just moving the "carrot" a little closer to us so they can take it away again.

Apparently, we can take either ad valorem *or* title tax route if we buy in December.

But if I understand correctly before March 1 you have to pay 1st year ad-velorum and sales tax, and then get a waiver for the 'title tax' which means you pay a bit more with the 1st year ad-velourm (I live in Cobb so less sales tax) and your sales tax, even if it is more than the 6.5% title tax. But it isn't really clear on any of the webpages that I have seen.

Congrats!

Thanks! Did you get the e-mail/click? Now let's see how much really changes.... ;-)

P6286. Had to say NO, as I managed to pay up all the taxes I would have owed in 2012 since I was given a Jan/Feb delivery. Thus, there would not have been a tax credit to use this year.

I don't understand. Probably I just don't get how the tax credit works. . . . I've Google'd and read about it in the past (and just now) and still don't get why you had to say no.

I'm happy for you lucky blokes! Really! :)

Just wondering though: for many of you with higher sequence numbers who might have been expecting March or later deliveries before, does clicking Yes change your expectations from hereon? So, if you still miss the 2012 boat (coz' it's not guaranteed), would you now expect nay, demand a January or a February delivery at the latest?

We poor cousins with 60 orders are fretting over here. :)

The big gamble is what will Congress do with the 2013 tax credit? Obama proposed a $10k credit, but I think the GOP will want to kill it, in my opinion, or at least significantly reduce it. This is a big deal folks.
I asked that question on the phone, and they said the Federal credit was good through 2013.
And here's the link:

It says very clearly that the funky golf-cart 3-wheeled things they stopped after Jan 1, 2012. For our cars, it is a qualified Motor Vehicle. $417 for every kWh in battery storage, to a maximum of $7500 with a base of $2500. It was last updated August of this year. Quit worrying.

I've been thinking about who might be getting this email and I think that the configuration is only part of the requirement (i.e. you've gotta be an 85kWh w/air suspension). I'm also wondering if you need to live in an area where Tesla will have an available delivery specialist sometime this month. Think about it, it makes sense for them to see where they have delivery slots available and make those cars first. Or, put another way, it makes less sense to build a car with a lower number that they know will have to sit at the factory or at a service center for several weeks while they wait for a delivery specialist to become available. Tesla needs to deliver as many cars this year, not only to make as much money as possible, but also to have the positive PR.

Anywho, I'm just speculating (because "speculating" sounds better than "pulling stuff out of my ass").
Lyon, not sure ... I'm 8485, near to Oak Brook, 85k and air, and I could EASILY pick it up at Oak Brook? Not gotten an email.
Could also be the date you finalized your order?
I am so jealous.

Just one quick comment about the fact that almost no one here has opted for delivery in 2013. This forum is a self-selecting group of enthusiasts who chose to waste... err... spend their time discussing Tesla vehicles. The point is that I doubt that we're entirely representative of the Model S reservation population as a whole.

Yeah, the fact that someone got the email in Hawaii pretty much deflated that theory.

My original delivery window is Feb/Mar. I received the email about getting the car early, and I clicked Yes. It's clear this is a desire by the factory to ride the ramp-up wave and build as many 85kW vehicles as possible. I would only have the expectation of an early delivery if Tesla told me it was a sure thing. If tomorrow, I receive an email that says, "Sorry, all the early December spots filled up, you won't get your car until the original timeframe of Feb/Mar," I'd be totally cool with that. I think Tesla has a pretty good handle on their manufacturing capabilities, but the unknown quantity, the thing they really have little control over, is the stamp from the Feds that they can begin delivering 60kW vehicles.

Not really, especially after reading how many emails were sent out. My initial reaction to the email was they were trying to cram in as many deliveries as possible before the end of the year by selecting owners who didn't need financing or require trade-ins. Also given the logistics of delivery and the holiday season, I had assumed the were primarily targeting people who would take factory delivery. That is obviously not the case. So, while I'm hopeful of a December/January delivery. I won't be too upset as long as I receive the car within my original Feb/Mar delivery window, because I've already planned a road trip for April. :)

The biggest advantage of a December delivery is that I will get back hours of time that would have otherwise been spent checking for updates on the TMC delivery threads in Jan/Feb/Mar. ;)

I got the e-mail too, and went with holding off until January. I love being the exception to the rule. Then a little over 5-1/2 hours later I got an e-mail from my Delivery Experience Specialist saying my Model S is ready, and that I can pick it up this weekend. Exciting and crazy times.

Oh well, you stay alert you lose. I just hope those moving ahead of me in 2012 don't push me further back on delivery.
I believe you're misunderstanding the tax rebate. The crucial amount is total liability; how much you paid during the year doesn't affect it. If you paid, e.g., your total liability of $10K during the year you'd qualify, and get a $7,500 rebate check.

I clicked "No" as I have too much going on this month and never counted on receiving a car in December. I really planned on receiving in Feb-March. I now have a garage project in full swing, no plugs as of yet, and a car I need to get rid of. I think I can still wait a little longer, despite every fiber in my body screaming for me to click the "Hell Yes!" button!

I agree it's unclear. The biggest thing for me is that the sales tax is on the price you pay and the title tax is on the value of the car (so a trade-in doesn't help). I'd concluded that I'd be better off with title tax... but because I wasn't expecting delivery until March, I hadn't given it a lot of thought.

Bring it On!

Two friends in Florida got the email 40xx and 7xxx. Both with 85kWh and air suspension. Both VERY excited.

I am said friend with the 40xx number. I am basically excited because I live down the street from Arnold Panz so I don't have to watch him drive by my house in his Model S anymore. I think we should start a new thread for the Tesla employee that reads the responses from the December delivery email to list the funniest responses. Mine would have been one of the following if I wasn't too excited to send a boring response:

Feel free to list what your funny response would have been.
