I think you are still missing some options (check premium color, 21" wheels, leather interior, twin chargers, for example). I get these numbers:

85: 84,350
Sig 85: 87,900
Difference: 3,550

per: 92,850
Sig per: 97,900
Difference: 5,050
These differences were indeed accurate back in October 2011. Those numbers have been etched in my brain since then.

Unless something has changed, they should still be accurate.

True but like aviators99 said, he didn't want all the options so the difference between sig and GP FOR HIM is wider. My wife and I went through the same thing. We went from R199 to SS189 and now R456 after pricing came out. We don't need dual chargers, like the grey paint more than the Sig colors, etc so the difference for us was about $8k. And with a delivery difference of 2 months couldn't justify the cost but that's an individual decision.

I posted this earlier but if I were Tesla I'd offer free service to any Sigs that get delivered after R's. It wouldn't cost Tesla very much as it would be spread over 4 years I think that would go a long way to soothing ruffled feathers and allow them to get R's out immediately in order to book all that revenue.

I don't know about giving the last few people to come off the wait list on the Sig who might have jumped up a few hundred to even 10,000 spots free service for a R getting their car a day or two before them but not the early Signature customers that had been waiting over 3 years. I would think you have to treat all Signature customers the same.

Not a sig holder, but chiming in anyway (so feel free to ignore my opinion). While I believe Tesla has always had good intentions there has obviously *always* been a balancing act between their ability to provide their customers with everything the customers need/want and Tesla's financial ability to do so. It seems to me that Tesla is walking the finest of lines financially, and likely priced the sig so that they could actually fund not just the car, but the ramp up in delivery specialists, production, etc... while using up almost all of their capital. I just don't see how they could have 'ignored the bean counters' without sacrificing *something*... where would you propose they cut spending? Have you seen examples of spending that seems out of line with a company trying to plan for the future and manage the present? I sure haven't. What I see is a company doing amazing things with so very little.

I've never given much weight to this being the manufacturer's problem. Yes, it's part of a customer's evaluation of value and thus factors into which configuration they choose to purchase.

Take that approach to its logical extreme "wow, the Sig tax is like $50k (or whatever) because I'm comparing with the bare 40 kWh." Clearly that's an absurd statement. When evaluating a 'Sig tax', you need to evaluate it against equivalently configured non-Sig not some hypothetical Sig with stuff removed.

My point was that in theory Tesla would be breaking their promise of a Sig getting one of the first cars and could offer compensation for that. For you and other Sigs you got what Tesla told you you were getting and if you didn't like it you could have downgraded or asked for a refund. You in particular would have only lost a few weeks since you're a Roadster owner.

That was exactly my point. It's an individual calculation.

Why didn't Tesla give you the $35,000 back? They should have since you went back to an R reservation. I was just making the point that giving someone $1,900 in free service for having a production car delivered maybe a week before their get their car while not rewarding other Sig customers might upset a number of people. They should either give all Sig customers free service or whatever benefit they deem necessary or not give it to anyone.

One problem is that "delayed" isn't really defined, because there's never really a date certain. Also (imo) it shouldn't be based on how many GPs are delivered. You don't really pay the premium to keep other cars from being delivered, you pay it to get your car sooner. The "if I can't have it nobody can" mentality isn't really the best. Concessions should be based on how much time you didn't save. If you are reservation S13xx and you got your car after a bunch of GPs, you still saved several months by paying for a Sig. If you are reservation S60 and got you got your car after a bunch of GPs, you might as well have gotten a GP, and should be compensated.

I understand what you are saying and it would be nice to do something for the Sigs. They still are getting a Sig Model and likely moved up a minimum of a few months if they are at the end of the Sig list. It sounds like Tesla is trying not to deliver any production cars before the Sigs but are saying there might be some overlap due to transport times and other factors. For example, if they gave someone their 30 day notice and they said 'I'm on vacation for the next 3 weeks, can you deliver at the end of December?' should Tesla hold back all Production deliveries in order to not make that person mad? They already have too many moving parts and are delays as it is, better to just get the cars out and get people driving. If people feel compensation is needed for Sig owners, it should be given to all Sig owners wether they were on the list half a year or three and a half years.

I agree with you though if there is one or two Sig cars that for whatever reason end up delayed until January when they've delivered over 1,000 production cars then that is a different circumstance but doing something for them and not everyone else would likely create problems. I don't think there will be any deliveries that delayed though hopefully.
 
Since I started this latest back and forth with a very public rant about Telsa's communication with respect to my car, I think it would be of interest to some if I provided an update. My DS forwarded my email to his 2 immediate supervisors. That email enumerated various concerns I had with the communication process regarding my car's production. Both supervisors have since responded and the picture has become much clearer. First, I was one of the dreaded 28 referred to in GB's email on October 17th, although I didn't know that until today. Sadly, VIN 991 is no longer. It has been scrapped. RIP 991. I didn't know that until today either. They have started over and I now have another body that is just out of the paint shop. If all goes well, it will be finished next week, most likely the last US Sig.
The question I have is whether or not Tesla should make some goodwill gesture for putting me to the back of the Signature line eventhough I was sequence number 513. I thought I was paying for the paint color and the privilege of being one of the first 1,000 US cars on the road. I was passed over through no fault of mine. If this happened in a restaurant, I would expect to receive a freebie without even asking. Feel free to opine and debate. All opinions are welcome.

So your VIN was started, ran into issues they tried to fix, and just recently they axed it? I ask. Because I thought the dreaded 28 were earlier cars (earlier than the 500s anyway).

My car was painted last week as well, so us end cap sigs can take the walk together :p

Yes. I think you (and others in the 'dreaded 28') should receive some goodwill gesture, something large enough to make you feel 'whole' -- and I don't think that should be shared on the forum, maybe only to the extent of 'Tesla made it right'. Otherwise they will be inundated with other requests. And I don't think that's right, either. It's not our business, but should be between you and Tesla. (And based on other posts you've made in the past, I suspect you agree with that.)
 
I wonder how many cars get scrapped by manufacturers? This is the 2nd or 3rd I've heard of, which seems like a high number given the small number of cars made and even smaller sample set of folks that would post.
