Wiki Model S Delivery Update

What she said. I'm a 50+ boy racer whose other boy racer pals all have loud performance ICE cars. When I let slip the fact that I had a Model S on order, there was some excitement plus a bit of EV scoffing by the boy racer gotta have rumble and the exhaust for it to be any good contingent. The scoffing became universal when they heard I "cheaped" out and got the LR.

I have a bad back and intellectually know that the LR is faster than I want or need so I went with that but now I have bad FOMO (especially after reading and seeing videos about the Plaid which had I read and seen before I ordered (darn Tesla delivery delays), might have changed my mind). If I was completely practical and intellectual, I should have bought a Model 3 or a Y.

Now, I want the fastest production car not only for myself but also to screw around with on the weekend with my pals. Oh well, the LR is still faster (at least in a straight line I think) than my pals' cars (though maybe not the 911 GT3, M5, Vette or the RS7/ crap, I need different friends).
You only live once?
No sense in being the richest man in the graveyard?

At $200 a month to get the FSD subscription, you would have to keep the car for over 4 years before the $10k purchase up front becomes advantageous.

With all the talk here about how to properly leverage your money, and how so many of you won't even keep a vehicle for 5 years. Why is anybody paying $10k up front?

Yes for those leasing or rotating cars out 4-5 years it is a wash.. I have been rotating my 528 and other previous versions at 80K as well but hoping to keep this new baby for a while.. and with that intent and the new info (new to me at least... Thanks @lbowroom) the free hardware updates for life of car would absolutely change the equation. Unless the Monkey starts monkeying around with these guaranteed upgrades as well.. 🙉

It was also a bit disappointing that the "expert" did not recognize the efficiency benefits of a non-ferrous retention mechanism that likely also allowed for tighter clearances between rotating and stationary components in the motor (thus better magnetic coupling and efficiency).
now you’re just showing off

VIN Sunday night
Text yesterday saying delivery scheduled for the 18th. I am out of town.

Yea...

I called Cathedral City and got to a human. Asked them how long I could hold. They told me the car is already there, arrived this morning. Hold 3 to 4 days due to corporate policy. (so Sunday at latest) They have a front window isolation area where one car can fit. There was a white plaid there last week. I can feel in my bones it is sitting out there collecting new sales orders. The dude assured me I could get another one soon and it was ok if I didn't make it. FFS! If I unassign, that car is gone that day with a $10k+ markup. That facility can't keep top end cars in their showroom. Palm Springs area has money.

I told the guy 4 pm on Saturday and I will bend the world to make it happen.

World has been bent. Work was very understanding of what must happen.

First world problems FTW.
I’ve got people in Palm Desert that can come help you out if you need it. Good luck!

I wouldn't put too much value in those upgrades for life. There are plenty of people here on their 3rd or fourth FSD purchase giving Tesla upgrades for life.

Until Tesla starts treating FSD as a purchase separate from the vehicle you are driving, I'll wait. It's an absolute ripoff that they guarantee hardware upgrades for life, yet when YOU choose to upgrade hardware with a new car, you have to pay again.

Picking up my Red Plaid with Black Interior/ Carbon Fiber on Monday 9/20!!!
I was at the SC yesterday, picking up a friend who was getting him Model Y’s windshield replaced. I asked for a peek at my car. Apparently it was still in an offsite warehouse. They allowed me to peruse the lot for Plaids & LR’s as I had never seen a ‘21 in person.
Didn’t find my exact configuration. But took several photos of all the elements.

Anyone here reserve the Plaid before the $10k price hike, then remove the FSD option before delivery? Did your base price go up by $10k as a result (making the FSD cancellation not worth it)?
Yes, there was some people in the LR thread that were successful in using the web page to remove FSD, get a new MVOA and not get the price increase. Seems like the only option to change that will not trigger the price increase.

Not sure if everyone already knows this, but I didn't. As a current Tesla owner, I "referred" myself in purchasing my new Model S Plaid. In reading the web page I believed I should get 2000 free supercharging miles (1000 as the referer and 1000 as the recipient).

Everything goes as planned but I only receive 1000 miles in my account. I "chat" with a real person on the Tesla web page and they confirm I should receive 2000.

I contact my SA and stated my case. Here is the response I received:

For their mistake and for the price of the car, you think 1000 miles would be an easy concession.
OK, I'm done complaining...
"
I will just share this. I sold my car in June, referred five other people since including myself / my own order, to only find out on 9/1 that they deactivated my referral ID since I had no active products. When I take delivery, my referral code will be the same, but those five referred vehicles (which two were already delivered) will be as if they never happened.

Thanks for posting the photos!

Question - I've heard folks are noting imperfect seams / creases on their seats and wanting Tesla to fix those - are these the types of things folks are talking about and would ask Tesla to fix?

I have a couple decent wrinkles and they told me to go pound sand.

Yes, those are bad. Mine are egregious from the pick up yesterday. Delivery specialist noted it and the service rep said to leave the car out in the sun and they'll go away 🤣🙄

I read someone posted in past 4-5 pages (sorry unable to track it down now) FSD guarantees future hardware updates. Is that realistic, i.e, I am to-be first time tesla owner. Has previous owners with FSD got the hardware upgrades or is it just another Beta type deal that is forever 2-weeks out ..... Your input please....

FWIW, my EDD is stuck at Nov 10-Dec 1 but reconciling to the fact that it is good in a long run with 2022 vin and outside of EoQ. But will take it if I get it sooner ofcourse.... Afterall waiting since early April....
Nothing from Tesla is guaranteed. Including your car.

My advice was specifically for his admitted driving habits. Those who get bored with the 600cc do so because they constantly push full throttle at every opportunity. If someone drives a LR like that, and can afford a Plaid, definitely get the Plaid.
Think I can save some cash and get an LR- (abbreviation for LoseR)? Only 400 hp, 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. $30k less. Still plenty quick for me. If my grandmother was still around, she might tell me to speed up based on how I drive…

I own a GT3. Your MSLR is as fast or faster than all of those cars you listed in a straight line (GT3, M5, Vette and RS7. It runs a 10.8 @128 1/4 mile consistently.

FSD adds value to the car when it’s sold. So the $10k is not a complete write off, while the sub is.

I know someone is going to say that FSD doesn’t transfer. It does. I did it. Selling it to Tesla is a different story, but to anyone else it transfers.
