Wiki Model S Delivery Update

In July, Tesla shut to reconfigure their factory to INCREASE production…

I am a causality of that “improvement”

After a week of “dancing around the issue” I got the bad news that my scheduled Aug 27[SUP]th[/SUP] delivery will not happen.
I had to pin down the “Delivery Specialist” asking point blank last night: “Is Tesla going to deliver my vehicle on Aug 27[SUP]th[/SUP]?
Answer, after some waffling: NO!
When?
Answer not sure yet…
They do not know when I will get my vehicle.

So we’re not visiting the Factory next week.

Sometime in September…
But I did get a followup email asking for payment the next day.

A thousand a week? Maybe next year…

I wouldn't think quite so negatively about it... (the thousand a week comment) stuff happens. I trust that they won't do this kind of upgrade again given the alleged problems. You also don't HAVE to pay until you receive your car. The only payment REQUIRED is the deposit (2,500$ for you), beyond that you can wait until you take delivery if you need to. Just bring them a Casheer's check or the check from your loan or whatever with you when you take delivery. Also if you had a factory tour scheduled and it would actually mess up your already set plans my understanding is that they will generally work with you. (give you the tour and let you take delivery later or something similar).

I am sorry that he couldn't give you a more solid time sooner, and it sucks when you are faced with a negative expectation of having your car delayed... Overall they have gotten a lot better at this, you were just unfortunate in your timing and I feel for you.

You might be able to get them to give you something to make it up to you? You should ask! :)

Checked with my DS yesterday 8/21/14. They are saying the line is about a week behind but is running well after resolving some things on the new line starting up. I am scheduled Sept 4, 2014 for delivery and they are sticking to that date. Saying the build takes two days and I should stay tuned to my status. When my status goes into production they can predict my delivery date. My guess is they will have car hauler lined up at the end of the quarter getting everything they can into shipping for the end of the quarter.

JBusch, that would be great news for me because if they're caught up by September 4th then my 12 September delivery should stay intact. Crossing fingers that's the case because I've got financing arranged and with the clock ticking on that have about 5 days or so leeway. Yeah I should have waited longer but I was irrationally worried there'd be a problem, but everything went well.

Unfortunately, that's not true in Texas. You have to pay the full price before they will put the car on the truck.

Well... That is unfortunate. Now I really hope they get the right to sell in the state because that sounds terrible! You shouldn't have to pay until you verify the product yourself (because they have never gotten a car mixed up and given someone the wrong one... /sarcasm)

I am going to guess that he lives near Cali given him taking delivery at the factory although it is possible he lives elsewhere.

I still recommend he talk to his DS about the problems that the delay might cause for him since they can't help you if you don't tell them. Especially given the factory visit.

Yeah, agree with you for sure.

My DS also contacted me a few days ago that my scheduled delivery 8/28 will be delayed. She mentioned sometimes September but I asked mid- or late. She could not be sure, either.

Sounds like the factory is not even operational?

Well that doesn't sound too promising--a potential multiple-week delay. Maybe I should be expecting my Sept 4 delivery to turn into late September....

Confirmed 7/1/14, VIN 524XX S85, Pearl White. Had late September delivery date assigned, spoke with DS a few weeks ago, arranged for home delivery in Rochester NY September 27. Very hard to believe this will actually happen on time, despite DS indicating the late September deliveries are "on schedule" as far as they know. The hard part is getting the financing 30 day window timed just right. I have until November to turn in my leased A7, so I can wait.

So it is 30 days from the date of approval to when you have to accept the check, and then I believe the check itself is good for another 30 days. You will actually have your first payment on the loan due from the date you pick the check up (not from when it is signed) at least that was my experience in dealing with Navy Federal Credit Union. So if you are getting close to the wire you could likely just go ahead and go pick up the check thereby giving you 30 more days to play with.

Alternatively, you might also be able to just go ahead and outright pay for the car even though you don't have it, although I don't know how well this would work, talk with your DS about it as an idea. This would also solve the financing issue, if it is doable.

You're likely right about the check. I may look into that. But the downside is that they won't fund the loan until the car is insured, so I'd be paying insurance premium for a month or so without even having the car.

Three days ago my DS said my Sept 30 date was still on target, although I guess that can change any time judging from what seems to be happening now (hope not). However, the good news is my bank has the loan confirmed and told me to just call whenever I want to activate the loan, sign the papers and receive the money the same day. It's interesting that nothing was mentioned about a 30-day deadline after approval to activate the loan. Actually, it was approved about a week ago, which was already about 6 weeks ahead of delivery.

I have two delivery dates, 9/26 (P85+) and 9/29 (P85). Was told I may get a delay in the P85+

I think it is like 5 posts to get out of the "restricted" posting, where an admin has to approve all your posts, and then the rest is based on reputation I believe. (That little star at the bottom right of each post is how you give it out). I actually only just recently got my third bubble, it looks like the bubbles are every 100 rep points. But you can post freely and as much as you want when you get past the 5 post limit (I think it is 5... somewhere around there). But of course I would follow the forum rules in your posts or the mods will come down on you (no trolling, try to stick to the topic at hand... although they will generally just move posts to another thread or into snippiness if it gets out of hand... don't intentionally derail the topic. pretty common stuff)

Overall the mods are pretty great here at what they do. The allow a lot of leeway in the posts without it getting too out of hand and quickly rail in the discussion without needing to really take punitive action. I very rarely see anyone get negative rep (which only mods can do) or see someone get banned/suspended. Anyway, speaking of sidetrack... if you want more information feel free to PM me.

About the charging, thank you for that. Since I have never been to NYC I was curious how the adoption rate would be and any limiting factors people would face in getting a place to charge their cars. Because all those people in the high rises will eventually go electric (that is the hope, right!?).

I suspect at some point Tesla will be forced to do what they have done in China and just put chargers in the city for people who can't charge at home. I think they are just not too worried about how much market they have access to just yet in the US which is why they haven't really done too much city charging.

When did this happen? today? With a 4-6 week shipping time, how much extra time do you think it will be held up in Customs by your country? I know they had a couple MS in country just for them to get inspected and approved, I hope it isn't anything too crazy for timing. My fingers are cross for you to get your car within the next month!
Happened on the 20th. This is not Hong Kong. My expectation would be max a couple of days in Customs.
