I am a bit baffled about most of the SuC locations in the UK. I was planning my next Scotland journey and looked for the SuCs from Dover to Edinburgh and most of them are either in Mall Parking Garages, Hotel Lots with Mobile Eye or directly at Tesla SuC. Is that not extremely inconvenient?
For one SuC around London I saw a comment that you need to follow some strange direction to a certain Parking Garage entrance otherwise you will not be able to get to it.
I mean.. shouldn't SuCs be easy to reach and easy to charge? The same thing with that Mobile Eye thing... I mean why using a location where the Tesla drivers have to register their parking with a Hotel or something?

On a different note.. I am still hoping that the NC500 is getting one or two stalls... maybe Thurso, Ullapool and Broadford... then I would have to call Chargeplace everytime I need to charge on their stations... (they do not issue cards for foreigners and the App does not work 50% of the time)

Initially Tesla put them wherever they could get them installed, just to get some coverage. The one’s where registration is required, is due to the venue’s parking facility being abused by people - not Tesla drivers but others who would just park there. By registering Tesla drivers aren’t fined.

Unfortunately we have a near monopoly on motorway service areas by two companies in the UK, Moto and Welcome Break. They specialise in providing filthy toilets, overpriced junk food and awful EV chargers. Tesla had to work around that, as well as an unsupportive government. However, quite a few sites that are in hotels are adjacent to the service areas, so you can just walk over. Scotch corner for example has a footpath over to the service station, and there are loos in the hotel.

I haven't been to Peterhead for a couple of months..last time I was there it was u/s. Ellon was busy but working. Oldmeldrum fast chargers still aren't on line as far as i know. Inverurie is working but I can't have the rapid charger to work with my car..others are ok i believe

I've been using Alford as it works well.
As fir superchargers. Dundee is the closest and just off the roundabout. Sorry i haven't used any others recently.
Just an update.
The fast chargers and slow ones for that matter at Peterhead lido carpark are disconnected. The Alford 50kW is u/s (reported ) only the22 kW working..same for me with the Inverurie ones. Oldmeldrum fast chargers not online yet.. a bit disappointing around here.

Thanks for that. Aberdeen supercharger seems to be out of action too. Have you guys forgotten to put a shilling in the meter or something? :)

If you want to pop over the Cairn o’Mount road from near Stracathro services to Banchory and onward cross country to Peterhead all 4 22KW chargers in Banchory are working fine today. 2 in the town centre car park, 2 in the sports centre. However I reckon a good top up at the Dundee superchargers in the way up would get you to Peterhead and back to Dundee without any problems.

Last I heard was 4/8 chargers are still available at Aberdeen, I think there was an issue with one of the charging cabinets (wind damage?) which has caused reduced availability. Although I'm quite local I can't check for myself without visiting as my MS doesn't have the CCS retrofit.

I got this email today. I sent them one back with the info above, although I'm sure they know already.

Dear Chris,

We are writing to inform you that as of Monday, January 4, Aberdeenshire Council will be introducing a tariff of £0.21 per kWh.

Access a list of the charge points this tariff will apply to

Aberdeenshire Council has taken a decision to introduce a charging tariff to ensure they can continue to maintain the chargers they own on the network, to make them more accessible and financially sustainable. Aberdeenshire Council currently owns over 45 chargers on the ChargePlace Scotland network and plans to have 24 publicly accessible sites by the end of 2021.

Read the full press release from Aberdeenshire Council

Please note, this tariff will only apply to the charge points owned by Aberdeenshire Council. If you would like to check charging tariffs for any other chargers on the ChargePlace Scotland network, you can find this information on our Live Map.

Thanks for helping us to get Scotland driving electric!

The ChargePlace Scotland team

weirdly look like v2’s

Maybe they think that at a shopping centre the “urban supercharger” model (72kW fixed, no sharing) is more appropriate.

This sort of site doesn’t really suit en-route splash-and-dash, and if you are going to actually make use of the shopping centre while charging the longer dwell-time can be an advantage (vs idle charges if you don’t rush back).

It will be interesting to see if they keep the V2 in production, or are just using up stock and will go 100% V3 soon.

It has to be this... Shopping centres will want to attract footfall and have a decent dwell-time otherwise why would they bother. V3 starts to get into the territory of being too quick so people might not leave their cars and spend. Bluewater and Uxbridge both are using V2 despite being installed this month so my money is on this being Europe’s version of Urban Superchargers seeing as the 72kW haven’t been used here.

Makes sense (along with Bluewater) but didn't someone calculate that there’s only 5-10 min difference for a full charge between V2/V3. Better option would be 11 kW destination chargers.

Got a feeling this may go off topic...

The “urban supercharger” configuration (if indeed they start using it in the UK) caps the max charge rate even if no 2nd car sharing, so gives more predictable charge times, and increases the difference compared to best-case V3.

11kW might suit some people (and would be sensible to provide as an extra), but is really too slow for people using this in place of home charging.
